Also if you are like me, have lots of apps running will cause it to reboot...
If anybody else knows of other solutions, let me know...

I also installed apex launcher and customised it to make the UI as conducive to use as a tv box as possible - it looks very streamlined and works well with the supplied remote. See attached screenshot.
Things I've noticed:
- ethernet doesn't seem to work, but maybe I just don't know how to set it up.
- multichannel audio does not passthrough the hdmi port
- netflix is disappointing - the video quality is very choppy and inconsistent. In contrast, youtube streams in hd perfectly and the netflix app on my PS3 works perfectly. So it's not my wifi or internet connection. There must be something inherently flawed with the android netflix app. Any suggestions on how this might be improved would be most welcome.
I've considered the combination in this thread but it seems like that wouldn't necessarily improve things, plus I'm not to keen on having to download, install and set everything up all over again now that it *looks nice*...

Testing 2 roms on UT1 and 2 kernels:
Rom: wasser 1.2.4 and finless 1.8 (currently testing)
Kernel: wasser 1.2.4 (kernel-1080p-ut1) and Riley 1.1 kernel
I like both kernels but notice on the wasser on wifi, after a period of time it drops it (have to reboot to get it back)???
so I use 1 ut1 with wasser kernel on ethernet (which I also use the hotspot...router is at the other end of the house in the basement...)
the other ut1 with riley kernel on wifi
Beyond XBMC working great
Netflix working great
The random reboot has kind of be solved mention in the above post...seems if you overload the unit, it reboots...if that makes sense...

You should load wasser 1.2.4 (kernel-1080p-ut1) kernel, it works great on ethernet. Just load the kernel, do not need to re set it all up...

Hi southpole. I decided to flash the whole rom with the 1080p boot.IMG and 1080 ut1 kernel. The rom does look a bit different and Ethernet now works.
This seems to be working very well so far and I have had no WiFi drops yet. Kids are watching Netflix right now and the quality has been excellent so far.
I wonder if your WiFi dropout situation is being caused by channel interference? I had this problem a year or so ago and found that nearby WiFi signals on the same channel as my modem were interfering and causing regular dropouts. I fixed it by going into my modem settings and changing from automatic channel to a fixed channel and have never had that problem since. You may like to try that if you haven't already.

I found that I was still getting the random screen freeze and crashes with the wasser kernel so I loaded the riley one back on (with wasser's rom). The only problem was that for some reason when playing youtube I would get the sound but no video - just a black screen - and could only resolve it by rebooting.
So at the moment I have the Finless 1.6 rom from your OP of this thread loaded with the riley kernel. Just loaded it up last night so I haven't had the chance to really put it through its paces yet but the Youtube thing *seems* to be resolved. (Not a fan of the mouse pointer and splash/boot screens but I can live with it if this proves to be stable). Should I try the Finless 1.8 version?
I have tried to flash the 1080 ibazzi kernel referred to in your OP a few times but it always results in boot loop. Any thoughts on why this might be happening?
Also FWIW - through all this I have never had WiFi dropouts. That is one thing that is always stable... go figure...
Hopefully the users here can all put our heads together to come up with a workable setup for this device!

I like Finless 1.8 and wasser 1.2.4 (kernel-1080p-ut1) kernel...ethernet has been solid...testing wifi now...
I took your advise with the fixed channel on wifi, will test it...

Finless neo X7 1.6 rom with Rileyrom 1.1 kernel - so far so good
Apologies to LCBXX and southpole for mistakenly attributing southpole as the person who started this thread in my earlier post.
Just for anyone else trying to figure out which way to go, I can report that on my UT1 the Finless neo X7 1.6 rom paired with the Rileyrom 1.1 kernel is working very well so far.
I managed to stream a 1080p movie over Wi-Fi in full with Dolby digital passthrough and no crashes. The playback was silky smooth. DTS working also.
My YouTube issue also appears to have been resolved - everything is stable. I will report back if anything changes.
