ICS for Arnova possible

    Nope, no one has PM'ed me a dump yet. I have had time to look around on the other forums in the last day or so to see if one got dumped. If you find ne let me know and I will be looking later this weekend as well.

      ICS the good, bad, and the ugly....

      OK the good.... the bad.... and the ugly.....

      The good...
      I have gotten ICS to some what work using the stock Arnova Kernal. But it is highly unstable to the point of unusable really.....

      The bad...
      Bottom line ICS must have a new kernel. I have ported ICS 100's of times now, trying everything I know, but using the stock Arnova Gingerbread kernel (since we do not have sources). It just will not work reliably with a gingerbread kernel unlike honeycomb will.

      The ugly... Well not so ugly for 9G2 users....
      So if I ever get a 9G2 G3 ROM dump, I should be able to mod it with all my fast stuff I do... The ugly is.... it's not got to be portable to any other Arnova tablet without having a specific kernel


      I think everyone should climb up Arnova rear end and tell them they need to publish the freakin kernels!!!!! It is the requirement of GPL licensing!!!!!
      Or port ICS for all the devices.
      Join in the campaign! I Emailed them yet again!

            Emailed Arnova Uk to day and got this reply

            There have been no updates for the Arnova 9G2. With regards to the kernels, this would need to come from our head office, although I am unsure if this would be possible. You will need to contact [email protected], for further information. I have sent them a copy of your email. We are just the sales admin office, here in the UK I'm afraid.

              Great, At least it is a response. I didn't get ANY answer to my mails so far, and everything others seem to have got are some bulk mail answer if I'm right. Maybe euro-info and uk-info are 2 mails we will have to add to our request addresses.
              Bob, maybe we should make a thread with all contact addresses we should address mails about releasing kernel sources. Or maybe it already exists, and we should add these addresses in it?

              By the way, thanks Dillon for writing, and for letting us know

                This is not the first time there has been a gang of people Emailing them. I started back in November when I first got a Android tablet. I am even registered on the Arnovetech.com site!

                Not a single response.

                But that was then and now there are many more users so another mass people bugging them might just do it.

                Again the rules as I understand under GPL licensing is THEY MUST release the source code for the kernel.

                    Looks like a dump of the ROM is now available. Too bad I have a 10 G2, not a 9 G2.

                            great news - i'm poised waiting

                            BTW - is there a documented way to make a dump / backup of my tablet before I download this and install? I've got the tablet set up just how I want it - albeit without ICS - and should things not go to plan I would like an easy way back.

                              But the easy way is to get the original firmware from arnova if they provide it for your tab.
                              But if you can get both the original firmware and a dump from your tab, that would be the more safe, of course

                                The 9G2 stock ICS ROM kit is uploading now!

                                Now I think Petrus he is asking about backing up all his apps and data so he can restore easily once he flashed to ICS. The answer is NO.... Even Titanium backup says a backup of your stuff when you upgrade to a different rom version is a no go. So you will be starting from scratch.

                                Since you have a 9G2 I assume, I have the stock Arnova GingerBread ROM for you if you need it.
