Good luck on your ROM and if you want us to host it here on our servers for download, PM me.

MTD is definitely changed on MX2 from 1.1.5 to 1.1.6

I can definitely confirm that the MTD layout changes when you flash MX2 from 1.1.5 to 1.1.6.

Here is the layout with 1.1.5:

      dev: size erasesize name
      mtd0: 00800000 00200000 "bootloader"
      mtd1: 00400000 00400000 "ubootenv"
      mtd2: 00800000 00400000 "logo"
      mtd3: 00800000 00400000 "aml_logo"
      mtd4: 00800000 00400000 "recovery"
      mtd5: 00800000 00400000 "boot"
      mtd6: 40400000 00400000 "system"
      mtd7: 20000000 00400000 "cache"
      mtd8: 10000000 00400000 "backup"
      mtd9: 18c800000 00400000 "userdata"

and here is the layout after flashing 1.1.6:

      dev: size erasesize name
      mtd0: 00800000 00200000 "bootloader"
      mtd1: 00800000 00400000 "logo"
      mtd2: 00800000 00400000 "aml_logo"
      mtd3: 00800000 00400000 "recovery"
      mtd4: 00800000 00400000 "boot"
      mtd5: 40400000 00400000 "system"
      mtd6: 20000000 00400000 "cache"
      mtd7: 10000000 00400000 "backup"
      mtd8: 18ac00000 00400000 "data"

      Hope this helps.

Also Bob, I have a zoomtak M6 that I am looking for a linux build for and was wondering if you know of a build that may work on it?

      Thanks,

So while it changed for you I don't think this is the totally new format. Yours just moved a few things around. The new format has new names and hidden partitions.

        dev: size erasesize name
        mtd0: 00400000 00400000 "logo"
        mtd1: 00800000 00400000 "boot"
        mtd2: 20000000 00400000 "system"
        mtd3: 1f400000 00400000 "cache"
        mtd4: 12c00000 00400000 "backup"
        mtd5: 60000000 00400000 "userdata"
        mtd6: 4ac00000 00400000 "NFTL_Part"

These are hidden to Android but available in recovery
        mtd7: 003fe000 00001000 "spi"
        mtd8: 00058000 00001000 "uboot"
        mtd9: 00008000 00001000 "ubootenv"
        mtd10: 003a0000 00001000 "recovery"

Very interesting Bob. Excuse the newb question but how do you get to see those hidden partitions in recovery mode?

          Thanks,

I modified recovery. Recovery must know about these partitions in order to write to them. They are hidden from Android OS for protection but not from recovery!

I made a .sh script to print cat /proc/mtd > info.txt to a file on sdcard. In init.rc for recovery I called this script (which I put in /sbin) and it sends this info to the file on sdcard.

            Pretty tricky right

If you read back here on this thread I explain exactly how I did this!

Many here agree with this statement 100% - the G-Box MX2 clones (g18ref boards etc) have been doing this for ages now - glad that you are a convert!

So - million $$ question Bob - when are you going to make a custom ROM for the G-Box clone users? There must be thousands that would love to have you perform your magic on one of these?

                Hey guys,

I'm wondering if someone might have a comment on my post at XBMC forums http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php...765#pid1611765. I hope you don't mind the link.

I have a bit of a situation with my MyGica ATV520 and I'm trying to get back to recovery. I talked about it here.

The RevertToBox4.2 isn't working for my situation. I'm wondering if this is related to something Finless said here. Is it possible that I'm not able to reach recovery because the RevertToBox4.1 includes the "factory_update_param.aml" file that Finless believes is unnecessary?

I'm going to trying the steps quoted above without "factory_update_param.aml". Am I way off here?

                Cheers.

                Edit: Results

I don't think that worked. Followed the usual procedure, held reset for 10 seconds and released. I had about 1-2 minutes of display off (not black) and three solid red LEDs. The "Net" LED flashed blue and back to red three times at roughly 10 second intervals. After the third cycle, the screen went to solid pink. It's been about 5 minutes and still pink. I rebooted and get a mix of white/pink/red screen colour. Help?

If your 520 is anything like the jynxbox M6 (which I think it is), then the UML is not needed but a .ubt file is.

Try using my ROM to make the unbrick SDcard.

                  Make sense?

Yes, thanks. I'm looking as we speak... but could someone point me to the correct Finless ROM for MyGica ATV520 AML8726-MX. Is it this one? http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...inless-ROM-1-4

Just to be clear, I can't access the recovery menu right now - power on takes me to a pinky-red screen of death.

Thanks Mike. I'm going to try the ROM option first - not sure "Connect your device to the PC via serial cable" is necessary. Does the earlier discussion in this thread suggest it isn't?

Urgh, no dice. Pink screen of death. Is the serial cable method the only way to go at this point?

No.... so far for me and I claim to be no AML expert, is if your hard bricked e.g. your u-boot in NAND is screwed, then shorting NAND pins will force it to load u-boot from sdcard. But to know which pins to short is the problem as you see from the many unbrick posts in this forum.

I can help but you would have to take the box apart, get the NAND chip number and we find the data sheet. That data sheet will tell us what pins to short!

Sounds good. I managed to pop off the bottom of the case and found the chip. The MyGica ATV520 has a Micron NAND Part# 29F32G08CBACA.

I searched the Micron website and found this one: MT29F32G08CBACAWP http://www.micron.com/parts/nand-fla...cawp?source=ps.

The access to those data sheets are locked, but I found one on DigChip.com here: http://www.digchip.com/datasheets/pa...P_C_TR-pdf.php

Finally, I stumbled upon this NAND Flash Memory Features document: http://download.micron.com/pdf/datas..._nand_m49a.pdf

Does this get me any closer to forcing u-boot from sdcard?

Hi Finless, do you have anything for the mx2 clones?

They are still brilliant boxes, was just wondering if you ever done a rom for them?
