    +100%

I already asked but, sadly, got no response:-

Would be great to have a Finless ROM running on an MX2 - many many more MX2's out there than Jynbox M6.

      Perfect!
Same chip as on my Jynxbox HD.

      You will short pins 17&18.
On my HD I had to short those pins and hold the reset. While holding those plug in power.
About 10 seconds later the screen came on booting to recovery.

As far as doing other ROM for boxes I don't have. I can take a whack at it but realize without being able to test, it's HARD!

Aiiight. I've tried a couple times now without success but it seems there might be a heartbeat that wasn't there before.

As you said, shorting between 17&18, holding reset, power on for 10-15 seconds and then release. When the power is plugged into the box the middle LED (left-side Status) is red - but once I let go of the reset and short, the Net (far left) LED turns blue for approximately 3 second and then back to red. That's the first time I've seen blue LED in a couple days. I also observed that after 10 seconds of power, releasing only the reset (keeping the short) will cause the Net LED to change blue. Any idea what this tells me? Shoud I be releasing reset and short at the same time?

I get the feeling something is happening when the LED goes blue but some contingency isn't being met which makes it go red again. Sorry, I don't have the right jargon to explain this assumption any better.

On the sd card, I've tried three file arrangements: (1) all "Revert to Android 4.1" files including factory_update_param.aml, factory_update_param.ubt, spi_MX.bin, uImage_recovery and update_stvmx_20130805_eng.zip; (2) all of the above except factory_update_param.aml as per your suggestion; and (3) all of the above except factory_update_param.aml and update_stvmx_20130805_eng.zip. No dice.

I'm hoping that I don't have to buy one of the USB to RS232 adapters. AuXBoX seems to think it's the only way to go at this point (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php...926#pid1612926).

Shorting the pins didn't work. Could it be my method? Sewing needle pressed in-between pins 17&18. Do I release short at same time I release reset? Shorting pins with reset changes LED colours blue for a few seconds, then red again plus pink screen.

You short the pins, hold reset, and plug it in. Keep holding reset and short the pins until the screen comes on or your TV shows activity. It should then boot recovery. This method has worked on all 3 of my AML boxes.

Hrmm, I'm at a loss. The files on micro sd are: factory_update_param.ubt, spi_MX.bin, uImage_recovery + firmware. Does that sound right?

                  Not quite

Step 1, using the sdcard maker tool (open as administrator in windows) tell the tool to format (check the box as it must be fat not fat32) and point the tool to the file spi_MX.bin. That file is your u-boot.bin. Oh and it must also be in the same directory the sdcard maker tool is in our you will get an error.

Step 2, copy the other files to sdcard
                  spi_MX.bin
                  recovery.img (from stock ROM)
Make another copy of recovery and rename it to uImage_recovery
                  factory_update_param.ubt

Now at this point you do not need the ROM files on SD. This should at least get you booted into recovery menu.

FYI, on my M6 I never had to short NAND pins! Only the button on the box needs to be held when power is applied. This was true even for a hard brick. It's the older format ROM that needs NAND to be shorted. Somehow this new format and .ubt file always is able to lead recovery from SDcard.

Dance of joy - your method is slightly different than what I'd be trying. So there's still hope!

For some reason, I didn't have FAT as an option when formatting my microSD. I went with FAT32 (or could've done NTFS or exFAT).

This is what my microSD card looked like after using the sd card maker tool.

                    Going to test it.

Hrmm.... this is interesting. At about five minutes post-reset, I've got blue LED and black screen. I haven't had blue LED for this long in days. I'm going to wait this one out a bit and see where it goes... no recovery yet.

                    Holy SH%T it worked!

It seemed hung on that black screen, so I pulled the microSD and rebooted with reset held down. And if my mother wasn't my grandmother's daughter, it booted to recovery.

But... I haven't been able to flash anything yet. I reached recovery - but nothing else.

Thanks for your help with my AML8726-MX MyGica ATV520 box. Using your method I have been able to reach Android recovery. Once I get there though, I haven't been able to flash the firmware (stock Geniatech Android or Linux). If I was trying to flash Geniatech firmware or even your ROM, what files should I have on the microSD when I get to recovery?

You need the zip file on SD card. Then in the recovery menu select apply update and select sdcard and the zip file should show up there.

                          hi guys,

                          Glad I found this thread

Like superfreak I had the red led issue. I managed to get to recovery by shorting pins 17/18 and get the recovery menu. From there it will only let me update using an .img file so am I right in thinking that is the new mtd layout ? Anyway, I have tried a few roms including finless1.4a (reboot and get olive screen) but nothing happens, and I have tried conicory prerc2 build (reboot and get black screen).
I know I am a gnats hair away from getting i back up and running, I just need a kick in the right direction TIA

Formatting failed means your recovery (and kernel) is not for your box.
