    Pipo M8HD RileyROM 1.4 KitKat

I know you've waiting for this for a while...literally ALL DAY. WOW, my upload speed is slow today.

Please keep in mind that this ROM is based on a beta preview release of KitKat from Pipo for the M8HD dated 1/13/2014. While my other KitKat ROM's are working well overall, there may be some missing features. So, please temper your expectations.

That being said, the other KitKat ROM's have so far produced a smoother running tablet with fewer, if any lockups.

    IMPORTANT FACTS

All I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM, BECAUSE THERE ARE RISKS!!!!!!!!

    1. You MUST flash the RK3188Loader(L)_V2.10.bin the first time you flash this ROM. KitKat requires this new loader to run. If you choose to go back to Jellybean...you MUST flash the loader for that ROM. The loaders aren't interchangeable. If you forget this, you WILL BRICK YOUR TABLET.

    2. NONE of the files in a KitKat ROM are backward compatible with Jellybean files...so you can't use an OC kernel from my Jellybean ROM with this ROM, or you will not boot.

If items 1 and 2 above weren't clear enough for you...read this thread: KitKat ROM's

    This ROM is:

    Rooted
    Not much to debloat
    Init.d support
    Busybox support
    English Language
    Google Play Store fixes
    VPN support
    2, 4, 6, 8, 12gb user app space choices (default 4gb)
Auto Install feature added on first boot (see this thread for details of this feature)
    Multi-user support turned on
    Latest Reboot app by Petrus
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
    Updated First Time User's Guide
RkBatchTool included as an alternate way to "switch" to flash mode
    New RK Driver Installer app

    Download

      Many thanks!!!

This week is a lil' bit "tragic" for me, but I will try it ASAP, obviously not before having thoroughly read all the instructions.

        Does built-in 3G work?

Kindly asking lucky ones who already flashed this KitKat 1.4 FW to your tabs. If you have M8HD 3G version please check is built-in 3G modem works fine. Thanks!

ok i noticed something strange...from time to time my display shows strange lines and it looks like two picture are overlapping and are offset.
When I put it into standby or turn it on and off its gone but after some time it comes again :/

i took a picture: Click image for larger version

Edit: seems that it just happens when the tablet is horizontal. When it turn the tablet vertical (and the display turns) it's ok:/

AFAIK your tab battery exhausted. In this case I see similar interferences on my tab display. Known issue, it's somehow related to power controller chip

I got this - it was battery related. Battery reported good charge but screen corruption told me otherwise. Eventually battery failed to charge at all. My tablet is currently away for repair with Pipo-Store (although they have still to acknowledge receipt)!

Do you suggest to send it back to pipo-store for repair?

Issue appeared after deep discharge. I had this problem with my tablet until it been repaired: replaced power controller chip.
Reason is previous chip couldn't process battery discharging properly (allowed too low voltage on battery and then locked battery charging).
                        How to avoid this.
                        1. Do not discharge your tablet completely. Leave 5-10% as a minimum and recharge ASAP.
                        2. Always turn off and fully charge if plan not to use it for a week or longer.
Everything I told is based on my experience only. By the way, some of Asus (Nexus 7), Cube, and HTC tablets and smart phones have this problem also.

How will you flash them? What recovery will you use? I was trying to flash PA Gapps on my M9 PRO but I couldn't get CWM to do it. Please update me on your progress

Very interesting - thanks for that.

Do you know if the replacement is identical and therefore the fault can re-occur? There is code in the kernel source I'm working with that relates to regulators. I may have a look

Replacement to absolutely identical chip. A lot of these chips are defective. Fault does not reoccur - tested this. This is HW problem, not flash. That's what I know from service engineer.
Can this problem be related to kernel also? Dunno. Yes, please have a look.
