Was there any ROM you used that did not have flashing on your MK908ii?

Is it possible that the 1080p kernel used in finless 1.5a work on MK908II devices with the RK3188 chip but not if the MK908II have a RK3188-T chip? I bought my stick from geekbuying late in december and when i checked the cpu clock speed it was only 1.4GHz, I haven't checked if it has a RK3188-T chip because there is a heatsink glued to the top of it, but because of the low clock speed, I thought that it could be because it maybe has a "T" chip.
When I use the newest stock firmware 19.12.13 in 1080p mode the screen is not flickering or turning off/on, but that firmware is only running a 720p kernel though..
When I use finless 1.5a with the 1080p kernel I have to change the resolution to 720p, otherwise it's flickering and it looks like I connect/disconnect the HDMI cable all the time.

I also purchased a MK908II from geekbuying last December and after checking your post I do see that I also have a 1.4Ghz stick and not the 1.6Ghz advertised that I bought. I was planning to make another order from them for a family member and now I am hesitant to make that order if they are not shipping the item as advertised. I sent an email to customer support to report this.
I also experienced the screen turning on/off @ 1080p on 2 TVs and flickering on 1 (my MK908 runs fine @ 1080p on these TV using an older ROM) on my MK908II using Finless ROM 1.5a. Flashed it with the Finless Kitkat beta ROM rom with darrellr's kernel and no turning on/off or flickering issue @ 1080p. I have Wifi issues though. It keeps on dropping so I am using ethernet for now. BT not tested.
Experienced stuttering playing a 1080p movie on my local SD card.
When I click on Downloads, process android.process.media keeps on crashing.
Using XBMC 12.3 Frodo and works ok so far. Still doing further testing as of this post.

MK908II HDMI instability

Bob
Under the fault condition, my TVs do not indicate "no signal" except at the very beginning. The screen just goes blank after a second or so of normal picture, then after another second or so the TV indicates that it is receiving a 720p or 1080p signal and after a second or so, displays the picture again. The problem starts right from the moment when booting commences; the picture will be coming and going.Last edited by curmudgeon; 24 January 2014, 23:45.

Hi everyone, just wanted to throw my two cents in. Recently bought a MK908ii from geekbuying through amazon and it came with this problem with the stock ROM. Ended up sending it back figuring it was defective hardware, and bought a MINIX Neo X7. No problem at first, it shipped with old 006 firmware. Flashed stock 008 and the same video cutting out problem I had with the Tronsmart shows up. Got 009 via OTA, still happening. So this problem isn't limited to Finless Roms and it isn't limited to Tronsmart devices. And if MINIX is to be believed that they don't use the slower T variant of the rockchip, it can't be that either. I'm glad smarter people than me are working on this, because it's driving me nuts.

TAKE the box apart and check if the processor is a 3188T!
Minix says they are only shipping 3188. However several products are showing up with 3188T processors and this is, I am pretty sure, the cause of the flicker!
Only way to be sure is take the cover off and look!
Please help us confirm this flicker issue. It's not the ROM... it's the hardware... Well at least I am pretty sure.
If you got a REAL minix X7 with a 3188T, get it replaced. But be aware there are X7 clones out there! If the price was too good to be true... Chances are.. it was too good to be true!

But if you wait a few more weeks I bet we will have this nailed anyway... You will just have a slower box at 1.4mhz as that is what the T is... a cheaper and hardware locked CPU.

mk908ii screen still flickers
Hello to all, and hello to Bob. First off I must say thank you to Bob for all the great work. Bob this question is for you.I recently received my mk908ii and flashed it with the 1.5a ROM and noticed right away the screen was flickering, so I did some research on the forums and learned that if I switched my HDMI output mode to 720p 60hz it would solve the problem, so I did it and the screen was still flickering on and off. I would like to know if there are any way to correct this problem as of yet?

Not yet.... I do not even know whats causing it yet!
I have a 3188T box coming and hopefully that will allow me to figure it out.

Suspect my MK908II uses RK3188T
I've now flashed with Linaro (radxa-raring-alip-update.img) and there is no sign of the HDMI instability problem. cpufreq-info tells me that hardware limits are 312 MHz - 1.42 GHz. Curiously, there is a line in dmesg that says "cpufreq: delete arm freq(1608000)" so I can't be 100% sure that the 1.42 GHz maximum is genuinely a "hardware limit". This Linaro image lacks WiFi/BT support for MK908II but my Asix USB/RJ45 adapter works well and I can make do with that. Surprisingly, the included Chromium browser is faulty. Firefox is OK.
