OK this is embarrassing. That Mk908ii from geekbuying, I tried various power supplies and HDMI cables before returning it, the MINIX, not so much. It was their $#¡+ cable. Glad I finally checked that seeing as it's the first thing I should have done. All good with my X7!

Kudos for admitting your embarrassment. It's important that we accurately know which devices are affected!

          Hello,

I have similar problem but with diferret device - Measy U4B - SoC RK3188 (wthout T). I had working device but I wanted to flash it with rooted room. Using RKBatchTool I flashed it with "kasty-measy_u4b-422-20130718_rooted3" rom. Unfortunately device not booted again - stuck at android logo.

After that with shorting pins and using MaskROM mode I flashed it with several stock roms: http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php.../#.UvUuQvl5NUV, http://www.rockchipfirmware.com/node/193 and some others. All of them didn't work - stuck at "R-Box" logo.

          After that I tried: tronsmart_t428_finless_15a, T428_HFW_1.2.1_720p, tronsmart_mk908ii_finless_15a, kasty-tronsmart_t428-422-20130529_rooted5.
All of them works but screen flickers as described in above posts (lowering resolution in settings->screen->hdmi mode reduces flicking frequency).

Finally I tried "Rescue Package RK3188 AP6210 S400 All-in-One" by TVDroid. Display is ok - no flicking. But of course RF driver is other so WiFi don't work.

I think that's very weird. Why stock and custom roms for Measy U4B don't want to work while T428 roms flickers? Not to mention working TVDroid rom.
I tried several power supplies so this is not a problem.

I can't throw any light on your problem but it might be worth trying the KitKat beta images posted today by d33 at:

              I will try tomorrow.
I posted this in this thread to suggest that the reason for flickering screen isn't necessarily due to RK3188T.

MK908 II - Issue with screen flickering

I just bought my first android stick i.e mk908 ii. But when I connect it to my TV (LG) it boots fine but after a few seconds on home screen the HDMI output (both audio and video) shuts down for a couple of seconds and then it comes back automatically. It happens irregularly and upto 4-5 times a minute. I’ve replaced every cable and yet it keeps on flickering. Bought it from Geekbuing. Any idea, thoughts? I did try the stick with another TV (samsung) and its the same result with it as well. I also tried connecting power USD directly to a USB source (1A , 1.5A, 2A) and also via the power adapter that came with it. Again no change.

This is my first android stick and any pointers (if the only solution is to install another ROM) would be much appreciated

I think most everyone is having this issue. And we are all waiting for a new kernal to fix this. From what i've read we are not alone (mk908ii owners) there are quite a few sticks out there with or at least near mk908ii hardware spec (CX919 etc) and they are experiensing this issure as well. As for me i Can use my stick in 720p with few disruptions but with 1080p i have to many disruptions for pleasent use.

I feal quite convinsed that we will se a new kernal correcting this soon, but yet for you there may be at problem with your stick. As i stated before i can use my stick at 720p and i realy like it, it's realy fast.

                          Regards.

Should I wait for the fix or just return the stick to geekbuying ?

                              Hi Bob/Finless,

Have you had a chance to look into this flickering issue on RK3188T. I bought an Mk908ii RK3188T from geekbuying and its causing these flickering issue. Hoping you could provide some insight?

                              Thanks.

I have a 3188T box coming and hopefully that will allow me to figure it out.

rdavenport seems very confident that he has found the/a cause of HDMI instability. See:
