One thing I forgot to check on -- does the Nextbook have SD or mSD slot? or am I limited to onboard storage. Does it recognize the Kindle app? As long as I can download a few game and a lot of books, I can be very happy.
    thanks again, gang.
PS -- one other, if I may? As an example, what is expected battery life doing, say, just reading a book.

The next book has a SD card slot and Kindle works on the factory rom and every other custom rom which I have tried, even ICS. Chuck

      Hello!

You will NOT be happy with the battery life of the NextBook. You'd be better off either waiting for one of the Polaroids, or find a place that has them in stock. That's what I did. Also, you won't have to do anything spectacular to add Google Play Store to the Polaroid, which neither tablet comes with pre-installed.

My local Kohl's had a PTAB7XC for me, and with a bonus for opening a charge account, I ended up paying about $75 with tax for it. I'm much happier with it than I was with the NextBook.

The Polaroids have pictures pre-loaded onto them that I take issue with, but pictures can be erased...

Really? Some built in porn or something?

You have me curious as to what pictures they are

I,m looking for a good download for The Big Lots next7s tablet. Can you help?

If so someone needs to dump the ROM from this so I can do a rooted ROM.

FYI, I doubt the tablet is rooted out of the box. They rarely are.

Get Google Apps for your next7s

It's pretty easy to get Google Play store on the Biglots next7s - I wrote a Linux script to do it since I had to do three of them:

The best plan of action is to set usb debugging, run this script, then do a factory reset which will take you through the Google signup for the device. Once you get though that, you can go to http://google.com/play and select the apps on your computer and have them automatically installed on the device.

Some stuff doesn't work (Netflix, G+ hangouts to name two) and some stuff won't load (Facebook) due to "incompatible device", but for the most part the experience is 100% better than just the stock device.

Hint: If you (or someone you love) must have Facebook, extract the apk from an android phone, set the /system partition to read/write (it's in the above mentioned script), and then install it like:

            adb root
            adb install APK_FILENAME

                    next7s download

I am looking for a Windows based download file which can support the GOOGLE PLAY APP. I have no problem with rooting the device and getting rid of all the junk, but I would like to do it using Windows Vista. Thanks again for all your fine efforts. John

How, exactly, do I "run" the script? The tablet is asking me which application to use.

You need to install either script manager from the market (easiest way) or a terminal emulator.

                          Thanks for the quick response!

Okay. I downloaded something called Android Terminal, which basically has a command prompt. What command do I type in to run the install7s.sh file?

Okay, I figured how to run the file ( ./gplay/install7s.sh)

Did a factory reset, had to calibrate the screen, tried loading the Apk files. It won't load Googleservicesframework.apk. Clicking on the Market icon just drops me back to the last screen I was at.

I also tried this procedure: http://gunnersbarn.wordpress.com/201...ook-premium-7/

Unfortunately, the command "adb devices" does not see the tablet, even though I can access it under USB storage. If I can't get this thing to connect to Google Play/Market, then I'm taking it back. I got my daughter one of the Polaroid 7" tablets and was able to get it to access Google Play. I guess I should have bought 2.

                              BigLots Tablets buy early

Join the BigLots Buzz Club, they will email you the upcoming ads before the print version hits the streets. Buzz Club members can buy advertised items a day before non-members. I went in on Saturday morning the 21st about 1100hrs there were 7 Next7S' in the case. I bought one, took it home liked it so much I went back late that afternoon (they only had 3 left) and I bought another one for the wife...I doubt they had any in stock Sunday morning. Thanks to all for a great informative site.

I used to own one but it couldn't be upgraded and the battery was only 1400 ma. I went to 3 biglots here today (we have 7) one store got 12 nextbook tablets another had 9 and the last one had 8 we have 1.5 million people here and it looks like the entire San Antonio area got about 100 total. I tried to get each store to sell me one today but no luck. I plan to be there early Sunday. If you want one you better get it soon. None of the Biglots here had any tablets of any brand on the shelves today.
I am very happy with my nextbook 7p and hopefully as happy with the 7S. Thanks to everyone for the hard work and dedication to helping the rest of us.

                                Need Help

Hey gang. I'm new here and really new to the whole tablet world. I was reading through the thread after purchasing one of these myself and had a couple of questions. First, how would I go about putting a different browser on it if I wanted to, if that's possible? How do I delete a lot of the useless crap that comes on it? Does it work with Netflix? If not why not and is that something I can change? Another thing I read a few posts about rooting it? What is rooting and is it the best way to maximize my use with the Nextbook? If so how do I do that and remember I'm new to a lot of this technological stuff so I need the for Dummies version lol
