    G3 ROM Dump

    Bob
This whole ROM dump thing is getting a little long in the tooth. While reading the guidelines you referred to me "the ADB guide" tells me:
"... 64-bit distributions must be capable of running 32-bit applications. For information about how to add support for 32-bit applications..."
My slackware system is pure 64 bit and it is a production system. I am reluctant to go through the installation of a complete 32 bit library just to read a ROM.
Do you know of another approach?

Is this worth buying to replace my 10G2 as I can get 4gb version for 149.99 pounds in uk as if ics is still possible for 10gG2 and will run just as good..then I will stick with it

I've played a lot with linux systems (64 and 32 bit) and from what I learnt, installing 32 bit libs on a 64b linux is just installing compatibility libs to run old apps. It doesn't affect running apps, and you can uninstall it all after.

So from my experience, you can install 32b libs safely, make a rom dump, and remove 32b libs if you like.
        That's it.
32b libs are just ignored by your native 64b apps

Edit : and when I say I played a lot with it, it is at work, on production environment with RedHat enterprise AS ... and some old apps requiring 32b compatibility while 64b apps still need to be running. So no fear about that. This is really well built.

Thanks for your comments, but you are not quite up to speed with 64bit slackware. It is a pure 64 bit system. I have just checked my repository and I stopped counting at 35 compatability packages which does not even include X which is required for the SDK.
This is something that for me requires considerable investigation before I take the leap. I too am an old hand 1996 at Linux and have learned to move slowly.
I will still consider trying to make the dump, but am investigation other ways than installing a compatibility system and the SDK.
There has to be an easier way

Ok, I see your point, and the easier way here seems to be a virtual machine
VirtualBox is an easy open source, from my point of view. At least if Oracle didn't totally **** it...

Virtual BOx VM can be a savior when you want to run another OS without all the hassle.

In fact I am on a windows box and do all my Linux stuff in a VM.

                Thanks Bob
I normally use a qemu-kvm setup for my virtual machines. I was trying to find a emulator for the rk chip but no luck yet.
I could build a 32 slack just as well I guess

yeah, kvm will be as good, I think.
I do prefer VirtualBox as mounting usb device to the VM is well documented for a linux host, but I guess you can do it in kvm as well.

And again : thanks for trying to give us a dump of your ROM. That will be great

                        No Root Today

Just had a run at rooting the G3 10b
z4root does not work on this machine, it just hangs.
                        No root on USB either
What about 'rktools'? Do you install that on the G3 or do you use them over the USB connection? Documentation on most of this stuff is really vague.

Anxious to hear how others have made out with rooting this device.

You can try pushing rkdump to /data/local that usually has permissions a non-root user can write to.

Thank you so much for trying I would really like an ICS rom for my arnova

I'm a noob too concerning rom dump, but I'll try to be helpfull if I can. First : what system do you have on your computer? Linux or windows? And either way : do you know how to launch adb on your computer? From what I understand, to begin the rom dump process, you have to connect your tab to tour computer and send commands with adb from your computer...

So are you ok with that first step?
