just receive my Tronsmart vega s89 yesterday ordered from geekbuying, excited to use it to replace my old MK808, to my surprise some the add-ons for xbmc is incompatible and then the antutu bencmark results is only 23468. i will attached some picture

Yeah, we were discussing this in the other thread. It appears the max frequency is locked to 1.6 GHz and minimum 96mhzand the kernel has got a hotplug governor. I'm guessing this is why the benchmarks are so bad.

I've downloaded Trickster mod and used the frequency lock to change the max to 1.99 and minimum to 1.4ghz and the box absolutely flys (although you can't antutu using the trickster frequency it seems to mess it up).

It seems the kernel was made for a tablet and needs work done on it (hopefully the sources are fully open and this is possible). The ROM also needs work done on it as you can't download paid apps without getting an error.


I would also guess the XBMC problem is because XBMC is in beta testing.

Please encourage them to release full kernel sources. This would encourage more people to purchase these units; more profits for geekbuying.

You mentioned in the other thread that it doesn't stay on higher frequency for long. With Trickster, does it stay on 1.99? Does it get heated up?

I really don't care about Antutu or other benchmark scores. Smoothness and lag free is very important to me.

There's a frequency lock setting in Trickster that you have to use to get it to stay at a higher CPU value. If you just change it , it won't stick. In saying that after a while something goes wrong and the max CPU value falls to 600MHz and won't change at all, then you have to reboot. I'm wondering if there's some sort of weird thermal throttling going on which causes the speed to drop to 600mhz and stay there that has been left over in the kernel from the tablets.

I didn't feel much heat from it at all set to min and max 1.99Ghz and the box felt cool.

To be honest the kernel is a mess and is really stopping the full potential if the box. I think I said if the kernel can be optimized the box will be very, very fast it has the potential.

They stated in another thread its only s802, but xbmc can do software passthrough over HDMI.

My only worry with the software handling it is having sync issues have you recieved your vega yet?

I've tested a few videos and there is big sync issues on XBMC.

Sync issues would really keep me from pulling the trigger and buying this device. I guess ill just keep waiting to see if any of this gets sorted by custom roms or if its something that can get fixed by customizing the kernal.

So this is why sound is only played through XBMC on some videos? I tried some videos in MX player and they had no sound but had sound in XBMC.

I thought the sync issues could be solved with the usual advanced settings xml

You can select hardware and software decoding in MX player, if the hardware doesn't support the codec then you get no sound. Flip to software audio decoder and see if it works.

Also use the latest nightly with xbmc but when posting results make sure to post the build date/git info from system info
