    3g stick and 4g/LTE

    Bob,

    Do you think that 3g and 4g lte ability would greatly extend the life and useability of this tablet(10b-g2resis)??

      there is an image on arctablet forum with the arnova 7 g2 running ICS(bought from Belgium)! this means it is possible for our devices with 512 MB ROM to run it, so there is a hope that the owner will make a sistem dump and a custom firmware will appear next days

        Archos GPL sourcecode

        I don't know about Arnova. But as far as I know, Archos has provided their source code for years: http://www.archos.com/support/suppor...try=us&lang=en. They also have "Special developer edition firmware" available at: http://www.archos.com/support/suppor...try=us&lang=en.

          Thank you for the information, however when my post was made (a long time ago) Arcos/Arnova would not release any information on the source code. My grip was buying a product which was advertised as "open source" and then being denied the source code. I made many phone calls and emails to sympathetic sales and marketing but non could produce the source code.

          Have you tried to do anything with the so called "Special developer edition" on a 10b3 or a 10b2? I would be very interested in hearing what you have been able to accomplish. Both my tablets are game machines for my wife and my mother-in-law, so I am somewhat reluctant to play with them.

          Thanks again for the info
          John

            Archos GPL sourcecode

            This thread seems to be less than a year and a half old. I first noticed the GPL sources on Archos in January 2010, when I was looking for downloads for my new Archos 605. I never experimented with alternative firmware on my 605. But with my new Archos Internet Tablet 101-16MB I went ahead and applied the SDE. This enables a menu under recovery mode, which has additional entries. Under the recovery option of this menu I flashed the initrd and vmlinuz images from the OpenAOS 8 Angstrom distribution. I can now boot the tablet in recovery mode and select Angstrom. This gives me an X desktop with a few applications. It is running Angstrom 2009.X-stable, build 2010-12-14 on a 2.6.89-omap1 kernel. It really isn't all that usable but as a proof of concept, I'm impressed.

              gpl

              This thread is a continuation of some very frustrating posts that started with my initial purchase (along with many others) of the 10G2 which both Arcos & Arnova refused to even respond about source code in both 2010 and 2011. The website you have referenced was not available in 2010 and was only setup sometime in 2012. You can check the file dates for yourself. I hold no grudge with the manufacturers as they did finally respond.
              Thanks for the info on your use of the SDE.

              Actually if memory serves me this started with another forum "arctab.com"

                Archos GPL sourcecode

                Thanks, John for responding. I haven't been on this forum very long so I didn't know how old the discussion was.

                I have a copy of archos-openembedded.tar.gz that I seem to have downloaded 1/28/2010, based on it's time stamp. The dates on the contained files bear this out, showing timestamps in November 2009.
                From the contained file linux-omap-archos_2.6.22.1-omap1.bb:
                Code:

                require linux.inc

                DESCRIPTION = "Archos 5 Linux kernel for OMAP processors"

                KERNEL_IMAGETYPE = "zImage"

                COMPATIBLE_MACHINE = "archos5"

                PV = "2.6.22.1-omap1"

                SRC_URI = "${KERNELORG_MIRROR}/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.22.tar.bz2 \
                           http://www.muru.com/linux/omap/patches/patch-2.6.22-omap1.bz2;patch=1 \
                           file://patch-archos-2.6.22-omap1.bz2;patch=1 \

                       file://defconfig"

                S = "${WORKDIR}/linux-2.6.22"
                But I never did anything with it. --Brian

                  not for 10 g2 or g3

                  That file and any other you mentioned as being available in 2010 is not relevant to the 10 g2 or g3. Both of which were not available for sale in 01/2010
                  sorry
                  Actually TigerDirect gave me a full cash refund plus shipping (on a 10bG2) in November of 2012 because they could not get the source code from either Arnova or Archos
                  If you bother to read the entire thread you would see that there were many other frustrated users of the 10G2 in their attempts to get source code at that time.
                  While there may have been something available for your model whatever it was, both Archos and Arnova would not provide the sources when this thread started. Even under threat of lawsuit.

                    Archos GPL sourcecode

                    As I said, I don't know about Arnova. Archos seems to have used various manufacturers for the Arm based SOC's in their devices. My Archos 605 has an Intel Xscale PXA 225 while my new 101 IT uses a TI Omap 3630. With Arnova, they went to a Rockchip RK2818.

                      Glad to see that is resolved. But as far as source for the 10bG2 or 10bG3 there is still not a full release of source code. Archos and/or Arnova, both names are on the box, have only given bits and pieces much is still missing. The thread was about the 10bG2.
