Arnova Child Pad Finless ROM???

Hey folks. Arnova provided an update that I downloaded from thier web site. This is a easy root!
So I will root it and add GPlay to it.

Anyone out there with this Tablet want to test?

The fact that a stock ROM is available now means you cannot brick this and can now always go back to stock.

Let me know if anyone out there has this and wants to test.

cool, been trying to look for some dev support for this. Got it for my son and tried to install gapps with no real success. Got it loaded and able to open but failed and wouldnt start again after trying to download an app.

whats different in it? new to tablets, use to phones and in do's/dont on flashing, but for this what is involved? just upload the rom and name it update and then boot? Wife would kill me if i bork it lol

You would have a way faster tablet due to bobs file system improvements. Also Google Playstore which is the proper full Android market. If your tablet has apps lib on it than you will see for your self that it is not child friendly. When I got my daughter a Arnova 10G2 tablet for Christmas could not believe the porn etc on there so that it why I flashed a custom Rom with the proper market on it. You can get strict parental controls on the Android market so it is safer.

There are the main points but there are lots of improvements under the hood that Bob does to.

Arnova stock roms are poor and you will see a great improvement

WARNING! This ROM is for the ChildPad Resistive screen model! It appears Arnova has a capacitive screen model out but has not said anything about it and they have no stock ROM available for download!

If you flash this ROM to the capactive screen model, your done! The screen wont work anymore!
If you do NOT know which model you have, DON'T flash this ROM!





OK here is my first ROM for the childPad. Finless ICS ROM V1.2
Not much work here really but it is full root access and the latest Google Play is installed.

alright download worked, reading instructions on installing the drivers. The childpad does not have a physical volume button, it only has a on/off button, it does have the reset hole.

4) While holding the UP volume button stick a pin in the reset hole and hold both volume up and reset

I'll see about flashing it later, im gonna connect it to the pc and transfer all the apks that came preloaded.

alright got into recovery fine just pressed reset while it was plugged into the pc and off. Rom is running and i downloaded temple run from the playstore and it works, i am getting "unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" i press ok and it goes away.

This is a known issue recently. There are 2 things to do to clear that.

1) Go into accounts and sync and turn on Gmail sync at a minimum! If it is already on, then turn it off and turn it back on.

If that does not work

2) Go into settings > manage application. Select all applications. In the list find google services framework. Open that and click clear cache and data. Now do the same thing for Google Play Store APP. Now reboot.

If after doing #2 if it still does it repeat #1 after doing #2.

This usually resolves it. For some reason the new GPlay requires Gmail to be synced.

Been waiting for this thanks! I'll test it as soon as i get home, does the zip file have instructions on installation? Also how does this differ from the update Archos posted on their site? Is it simply the same ROM with play and root enabled? Does this rom also allow for Netflix and the other blocked apps to work?
