Edit: if I unplug the USB and try to set device in flash mode device will not be recognised again by the computer until I short the pins again .

So... Anybody knows what that red thing is for? I checked and it's just a plastic designed to open up for what reason? I have no clue, but I think it's useless, unless they have a plan for using int in the future... Inquiring minds want to know!

I got exactly the same hardware :
Once in mask mode, if you have errors (idb failed ...) the rom is probably no fit for your hardware (i got the same issue)
Go in mask mode (short pin) again with RKBatchTool v1.7, square must be blue, then try this one :
cyxtech_rk31_809III_8089_140509
you can find it here for example :

My problem does not seem to be wrong ROM it's just the fact that when in MASK ROM mode I cannot erase Nand or flash boot or pretty much anything , I have tried pretty much all the flash tools available here but no joy .They all see the device as in MaskROM device but I cannot do anything , everything just fails (will post some pics when on my PC later).Meanwhile I will carry on trial and errorBut I'm no expert so all help / ideas more than welcome
