Minix X8-H not powering up
Originally posted by toymanedk View PostMy new Neo 8 booted up so slow the first time I thought it was DOA. The blue dot indicator light is basically useless as it is so dim it cant be seen unless in complete darkness. It took about 4 minutes to boot up and the TV said incompatible device. After the first boot it worked much better...but indicator light still no value added. Also had to adjust screen scan area as it would not fit on TV screen fully.
We shall consider a better logic - such as bright as start, off after getting into system, thanks for your feedback.

Minix X8-H not powering up
Originally posted by gene0915 View PostMy original order was for three X8-H boxes. I set up the first two just fine and when I hooked up the 3rd one (plugged in the HDMI cable first) and tried to power it on, I never got the blue light on the front. I have let it sit for 30 minutes and no blue light and it never boots up. I tried flashing it multiple times with the instructions from your site and Geekbuying's blog and the device simply won't power up. I'm not upset..... devices can work one day and not the next. I just want to return it for another X8-H.

Also, please make sure to connect the HDMI to the TV BEFORE powering it up. It saves lots of time (avoid empty EDID scan), thanks.
And we would like to emphasise one more time that all machines have been powered up and tested before leaving our factory, it's a mandatory process. We need to burn MAC address, flashing the stock firmware, doing HDMI, USB and wifi tests, etc...
We don't come here so often, so maybe it's better for you to ask the question at:

So after the 6-10 day promised delivery time, I sent this email to GB:
"Hello, I was wondering if there was any update? Did you receive my dead X8-H back or are you still waiting on it? Looking at your site, I guess you’ll get a new shipment in at the end of June…. is that when my replacement will ship?"
..... and this is the response I got back:
"HI,dear, thanks for your email, it is very useful , here we will resend one MINIX X8 --H ,
when we have prepare it well , we will ship you as soon as possible.
any problem , feel free contact with us .
best regard,
AMY"
..... I'm assuming my dead X8-H arrived and they're just waiting on more stock to be delivered from Minix before shipping me a replacement.
So far, I have no complaints about the customer service I'm receiving from GeekBuying. If I get an email in a few days stating that a replacement X8-H is on it's way, I'll be very happy and will have no problem recommending GB.com to friends.
See what happens with your package today. Did you follow all the instructions and not use DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc and were you sure to mark it as a gift?

Sigh...I hear all the time ppl complaining about the bright cobalt blue LEDs in front of devices as annoying and such. Now its too dim? People will never be satisfied. I for one am glad its dim. They are annoying and I don't have to put tape on it. At least its bright enough to know you have it on.. Please don't make it bright again MINIX. You can't please em all

@gene0925 Yeah followed all instructions. My tracking is working. It arrived it Guangzhou a week ago, which I have no problem with. It's the message that it was attempted to be delivered two days ago but not picked up that's annoying. Except for the speed of the initial package, I haven't been so impressed with GB's support at all and this is the third thing I've ordered from them.

Pretty astonished how terrible Geekbuying's customer service is. Four days later they've sent someone to the post office to pick up my RMA, and it will take them another six days to process through their systems before they'll think about sending a replacement. Can only hope they actually have some in stock when they can be bothered to get round to thatLast edited by chrishoughton; 28 June 2014, 03:32.

So I apparently killed my X8.
I was going to try to do something about the ultra-dim LED as described here:
So with the greatest care, I opened the case, took out the PCB and had a look at the case itself.
Sure enough, you could actually use a dremel to let more light shine through the plastic. So I did that, put the PCB in the case again and plugged it in.
I saw the light from the LED through the case, was briefly delighted and unplugged it again. Then I reassembled everything and put it back to the TV, only to notice that the device was now a brick.
It just does nothing at all. The LED does not come on, not HDMI output, nothing. Pressing the recovery button does not help and neither does connecting it through the OTG port.
Can anyone please help me and tell me what to do? I never really touched the PCB itself and when I did, I made sure to touch it at its sides. This really isn't the first time I'm holding a piece of hardware, so I'm completely clueless about how I managed to screw this up.
Unplugging the device right after powering it up might not have been the smartest thing ever, but is it really possible to brick it that way? Shouldn't I be able to use any way of recovery? Sending the X8 back is probably not an option now that I have opened it up and fiddled with the case -.-
I'm really desperate right now, can someone please tell me there's a way to get this device back on track?

Fist have a look at the PSU, maybe you have a voltmeter...
Then maybe reopen the device and place the pcb at a safe place (maybe glass) and have a look if it will power up (first plug in at pcb and after that at power point)...RK3288 Devices

I just took it apart again, but it does not power up. I tried switching the Power Mode jumper to make sure it's not just the button that's faulty (because AFAIK it should power on immediately if you change the jumper, but still no luck.
