I will take a photo as soon as my camera is charged again. My phone is not capable of such detailed closeups

When you modified the case did drill right through or just thin it out - is you handy work visible externally
I thinned it out from the inside. There's a small bulge visible from the outside, probably from the plastic heating up in the process. So while it's not perfect, the outcome should be very good. I also made pictures of the whole undertaking, but I'm hesitating to make a thread about it since, well, I fried the device while doing it. So I cannot even show the result as I'm lacking an "after"-shot.

      Here are 2 images:

Full PCB. We already have an image like this floating around, but I figured it can't hurt. Might be a bit bigger than the one we have.

Closeup of the fuse (well, as close as I could get)

Newsflash: When bridging the fuse with a piece of wire, my X8 seems to boot normally.

I will now order a replacement fuse and then attempt to fix the device properly.

Seems like this story will have a happy ending after all. Thanks so much for everyone in this thread helping me (and especially no_spam_for_me for his support via PM).

When I receive the fuse(s), I'll let you know if I'm back on board

Great job for putting a jumper on the fuse. Sounds like you will be OK after all.

Yeah. I'm very happy that I won't have to choose another device or buy another x8. But I am going to be more careful with PSUs from now on☺.

My DOA, no power, X8-H arrived with Geekbuying two weeks ago. They've only just managed to process the RMA. Now they're saying they're out of stock and can I wait another week for them to get stock in. Aaargh.

Plus testing time -plus delievery time --- you wouldn't want another DOA -- at this rate Minix will have finalize the rom 002 LOL.
Lets hope GB send by DHL so you get the unit quicker and start having some fun with the unit

The replacement fuses were in the mail.
I soldered one directly on top of the old one (yes, leaving it in place) and my X8 is now alive and kicking again.

Thanks again for all the help from you

I'm sorry I didn't take a picture when I was done. Maybe next time. 😅

Yes, they promised DHL (I already paid for DHL, with which the broken device came super-quick to be fair) but I nearly had a heart attack when the confirmation email for the RMA said Singapore Post 15-30 business days delivery. I ordered it in May! Thankfully that was another mistake and I should finally have my working X8-H in a few days.

Hurrah. After the most painful RMA in history, I've got a working X8-H.
