ok, after some help from bob, I've managed to get my rom running on ext3, and a few other little tweaks. I'll post more as I go.

bob, when loading the ext4 modules, does it matter which order I load the modules? because I'm doing this a step at a time, I wanted to find out where the error is occurring, so I added the modules, and recompiled the boot , reflashed, and then I did an lsmod and I see that the journaling is loaded, but not the ext4. if I manually load the ext4 after boot it loads fine. blah.

                thanks

This is the order I use them

                  insmod journ.ko
                  insmod ext41.ko
                  insmod rk29xxnand_ko.ko

ok, then the order it is loaded DOES make a difference. that's what caused the problem I had.
load them in that order.. otherwise the ext4 module won't load at all. I'll get back to my rom. I should have ext4 completely in a bit.

I wonder if it would be possible to convert the data and cache on the phone without losing data? like run the conversion from the tablet? I'll play.. worst case scenario, I wipe the data and cache.

                        ok, all ext4 now.

now, I was looking and saw a pic of a cube u9gt.. and it looks EXACTLY like this tablet. I mean exactly. same specs, same connectors, everything. I wonder what would happen if I were to try to flash a u9gt rom onto this?

EDIT: even the status bar is the same, it has the same volume up/down and back buttons.

You cannot perma brick a RK29 tablet as long as you do NOT flash the loader from another tablet. So go ahead and try it! You can always flash back to your ROM. Again do not flash the loader from the Cube.

did some testing, the u9gtS rom seemed to work except the transflash (microsd) wouldn't read right. wireless worked good, seemed nice and snappy.. that rom was kinda weird.. it apparently was built on the 2.1 sdk, it had the ics appearance (could have been the nexus launcher though) , but according to the about, it was android 2.3.1 I'll try the u9gtsa rom tomorrow, and I'll post on how that goes. if the u9gts rom will work with the microsd card I have, Ill probably try modding that rom, it was REALLY quick.

more info, I've installed all 3 of the cube u9 series roms, and the u9gts and the u9gtsa both work. the u9gtsa gave me a few little bits of funkyness, but nothing major. if I were a betting man, I'd say this is a u9gts the ONLY problem I've found, is that the driver for the micro sd card doesn't support more than 16gb. it won't read my 32gb card with the cube roms installed, but it will with the stock rom that it came with. how can I verify if the video hardware decoding is functional? the u9gts rom is very responsive and quick, I may try to use that to base a rom from. I notice there aren't any ICS roms for the u9gt series. that kinda sucks, as I'd love to have ICS on this thing. I may try that 2918 ICS rom on XDA and see what kind of results I get from it.

My "gingercomb" ROM for the Arnova's and Nextbook are based on the Cube ROM. However I did have to do a bit of work figuring out drivers and lib files for some hardware and taking them from the Arnova ROM and putting them into the cube rom. While I had no SD card issues like our having, I fif have to fix the camera, sound recorder, wifi, and a few other things. Sorry I do not know what lib.so file handles the SDcard. It maybe just the vold fstab that is setting that limit?
