anybody checked, we have true 5.1 sound through spdif? I use wasser FW and there is only 2.1. i changed in output device option between rockchip-spdif and rockchip-spdif passthrough settings, doesn't matter it stay 2.1...

yea, and other important thing in wasser FW it is not possiblility to activate developers options, so there is no way to use kingoroot or mtk droid tools software for root option repairing or so, because no way to enable usb debugging option. That is sadly
i dont know if was my anxiety but king0root did not fully rooted in the begening. so basicaly what i did were the followin steps.+

        (andoird 4.2)

download and run TPSarky Von Droid
MEGA provides free cloud storage with convenient and powerful always-on privacy. Claim your free 50GB now!

you must have enabled debug mode and connect to pc.

the procced does reboot the device 3 times. so every time the device boots you need to enable again connect to pc.
when finish you need to install supersu from android market

        (android 4.4)
Perform the same steps for android 4.2 but it does not get fully rooted like su is not copied to the correct directory and super su either.

so you need then install kingoroot http://www.kingoapp.com/
the enable connect to pc and debug mode enable.

that will root the device as its expected.

i was not able to root the device only using kingoroot i did to do it like i did upper.

probably is that the version of TPSarky Von Droid that i did use was buggy or out dated.

Does anyone know if there is any firmware for this device which fixes the RK3188 frame skipping issues when playing videos - either stock or custom? It's so annoying that video playback is so jerky no matter what app is being used - tried a couple of official firmwares but both are the same.

I run the device in 720P mode (TV is only 720P), it's jerky at 50/60Hz

I can recommend Wasser FW 1.04, its a true 1080 p FW, but I think there is 720p support also. By the way there is hard bootable problems with restarting, but if it loading, no problems at all, except no BT support. Play FullHD movies on xbmc very smooth.
              May try stock FW cyxtech_rk31_cs918V6_8723_140829_4.4_8g2g

Thanks for the replies, going to try official KitKat first as ideally need the device rooted to run a Samba shared drive over WLAN, struggling to get that firmware to download without corrupting though which is a pain. Will see how I get on, if not will try the Wasser ROM, don't need bluetooth at all and I suppose I could live without root if video works well - as can always pull the SD card to put it in my tablet. Will let you know how I get on - I suffer from chronic migraine so fixing jerky video playback is a biggie for me as it triggers it within minutes.

                Thanks again

So I finally got the Kitkat build installed, video seems silky smooth, the 4.4 kernel must have done the trick, so pleased.

nope...all my tested firmwares working with my external 2.5 HDD well, I use external disk since the first booting device, only for firmware cyxtech_rk31_cs918V6_8723_140829_4.4_8g2g there was a bug. My hard disk has advanced function such as sleep function after inactivity, so. this firmware somtimes booting up disk for no reason and dont let it sleep anymore But that bug was only on v6 FW, no problems with wasser and others
