    AML8726-MX Android Box MX jaibreak

hi, I'm new in this, I like learn and help if I can.
my problem is the following, I have several boxes HD18D (G18REF) M8, S82, UD6, and I can do everything I need, but the last AML8726-MX I buy, I can't do almost nothing, I try lots of staff I see in this forum, Images on SD card, the reset button don't work, (only work with factory firmware, and not always, firmware give by supplier), ( I try on 5 MX boxes from same supplier), I open and compare with my other box, they are identical.

some one knows a way to jailbreak this Box? or other option?

    Supplier yeyate,

    Hi

I have exactly the same problem with boxes from same supplier. I have managed to change the firmware to a matrices image 1.1.5 as people suggest installing Linux over that build however when I have installed Linux it doesn't boot properly without pressing the toothpick in. I then have no choice but to reset the device with the prepared SD recovery card supplied by the manufacturer.

I get the feeling the boot loader is locked on this device. If anyone has any advice on how to renew the boot loader I too would be grateful. On other devices, the toothpick will access the android recovery menu with or without an SD card inserted. On this one - the manufacturers image must be inserted for it to recover.

Currently I'm trying to find a 1.1.4 Matricom image which has the updater software to run the pre 1.1.5 fix which I've read about. I'm hoping this will update the device from old MTD to new MTD (No idea if I'm talking sense!) which will hopefully have an impact on the boot loader!

Any advice on whether I'm on the right track would be appreciated.

Loaded a Linux build of gotham 13.1 and it was fantastic (Until it wouldn't boot properly!)

    Many Thanks
    Chris

I think you are correct about using the Matricom 1.1.4 to begin the conversion.... where did we see that? I would like to re-read that forum too...
As far as the actual 1.1.4 firmware zip, give me couple of hours and will upload it to my Google Drive and share it...

          Thanks for the reply Kozmo.

          I've tried everything.

I can flash 1.1.5 from the OTA updater menu and it works.

I can flash the matricom boot loader recovery files and I get the android recovery menu like I should.

I tried flashing 1.1.6 from that screen and got different boot images (Matricom and Gbox) instead of the usual @9 and MBOX that I usually get but it hangs on the Gbox screen. I wondered if I'd managed to update the boot loader at that point but it appears not.

I can install Linux from the OTA updater from 1.1.5 and it boots perfectly the first time - then won't boot a second time and just hangs on the @9 screen again.

I can't install Linux from the Android recovery menu - I get this error:
          Assert failed:write_raw_image ("/tmp/bootloader.img", "boot loader).

I'm hoping that the Matricom 1.1.4 will give me the update function to flash their pre 1.1.5 fix which will hopefully improve the boot loader to allow me to flash a wider variety of images.

if all else fails, an SD card formatted with the manufacturers u
boot.bin with their crappy 1.1.4 which is full of chinese works every single time!!!!!

I've read about Old MTD and new MTD but can't get a definition on what it means. I'm wondering if the pre 1.1.5 fix is something to do with this!

As for uploading the file, I can't thank you enough. Much appreciated!

          Chris

What is your current MTD layout? How did you install Matricom 1.1.5?

Old/New MTD is referring to the Nand (internal memory chip) partition layout, that has changed with release Matricom 1.1.6.

Re: AML8726-MX Android Box MX jaibreak

I have installed the 1.1.5 using "revovery" card build from instructions by BenniBenassi at xda-forum, and now I'm stuck at 1.1.5. Can't install anything, Using either the built in Updater or OTA, nor the Recovery (toothpick method). It fails every time, with different errors.

That sounds good. I had no luck getting original firmware for my generic MX box (g18ref). I installed MX-Linux on it without any problems, but I really want to install OpenElec, but need to convert to New MTD first, and unfortunately the only way I've seen is to install Matricom 1.1.6...

                          Hi Guys

Luis - I've got a rom image with 13.1 Gotham which was created by ****** - it works fine and Gotham 13.1 is 100% better than the pathetic 12.3 Frodo build they were supplying as that wouldn't even play a 720p movie without stuttering (I think the hardware decoding is disabled on that build).

The image they give me needed to be flashed with the toothpick method but saying that I never tried the Ota method so it may work too. Any problems with that, let me know and I can talk you through.

The thing is luis - I got a Linux build to work yesterday compiled on 19th July which has got an amazing performance. The issue I had was it wouldn't boot every time so there is something wrong with my boot loader otherwise my Mx2 would be absolutely perfect. If you ever see XBMC in linux on these boxes you won't tolerate how slow and pokey it is running on Android!

                          Kozmo

Have you tried the Matricom bottom recovery method?

There's a small file comprising boot.bin and recovery.img. If you flash it, you should get to the Android recovery screen and you can try a reflash from there.

Failing that, I could upload the recovery image provided by ****** which works for me flawlessly. I get an @9 logo when I boot up and apparently this refers to a generic Mx2 box so it may work for you. They provide a windows program that formats the SD card and embeds the boot.bin in the first partition. This is the only way the boxes Luis and I have will accept a factory installation!

                          I`t's such a pain!

One more question - how did you pull up your MTD layout??????

                          Thanks

I would appreciate the Recovery files...
                            To find out your MTD:
                            1. Install Terminal Emulator from PlayStore, open it up, type:
                            su
(Prompt from SuperUser shows up, allow ir)
                            Then type:
                            cat /proc/mtd
It will list your partition table
Then type "exit" twice to get out and close terminal
