    Finless

This is just a quick post to say a very big thank you for this ROM.

I have 3 OTT M8N boxes, all bought at different times and each with a different firmware on them.

The one that has caused me grief from day one had stock firmware on and suffered the the well documented issue with the the NIC disconnecting randomly. As such, I installed OpenELEC on it and was doing fine. This box was in the kitchen so all it ever did was stream music from the media server, which was OK until the Long Haired General decreed that being able to load up recipes and such like might be of benefit.

So I spent most of this evening downloading and installing various ROMs, all to no avail NIC keeps disconnecting. I knew it wasn't the hardware because all was fine under OpenELEC! Then I stumbled upon this post. What a godsend this ROM is. A full working Android desktop instead of some cartoon Metro knock-Off. Nic stays connected, rooted (Properly) and Google Play works and all apps install.

So, a big fat thanks my friend and keep up the good work

    Android version: 4.4.2

    Kernel Version: 3.10.33 ubuntu@ubuntu188 #16 Thu May 15 12:12:51 CST 2014

I have a Skystream x4 box flashed with Mega-Tron Rom m802 v3.. works perfectly. My board shows m9&m8 v1.0 and has a m8n sticker on it.

I would love to find a rom that will work on this box that has Android 5.0 OS on it..

Had to fix NEW bugs they put in this new ROM.

This is made from the latest Acemax 7/22 ROM that just came out.

I have done things to this ROM that is not in any other ROMs I have made so far for any S802 box, so your getting my best right now.

If you like this ROM and the work I put into it, consider a donation please.
Not to beg but again lots of work for you ENY M8 users.

    ________________________________________________

Features and release notes for my 1.8 ROM:

    1) Properly rooted using SuperSU. What does properly mean?
Android 4.4.2 requires SU to be running as a daemon now. There are many ways to run this as a daemon.
Most roots so far are using a install-recovery.sh script or if init.d is enabled, a init.d script.
This means you could lose root if messing with these scripts which some rooted apps do!
What I have done is started the daemon in init.rc thus eliminating the need for boot scripts!
This took me a while to learn to do! Enjoy a BETTER ROOT!

    2) Updated Google framework and Play Store core files. The ones in the stock ROM were out of date.
On first boot NOTHING will need to be updated once you logon to Google Play.
That is as of this date.

    3) Debloated of junk APPs and Google Apps you can get from Google Play.
There was quite a few useless hidden apps in this KitKat release! Some of them did not even work.
I like a CLEAN ROM that you the user can setup the way you want.
Having APPs in /system leaves that junk in there forever (unless you delete them by hand with a root explorer).

    4) As always, full init.d support! If you do not know what that is... ignore it. For geeks that want to use it. It is there!

    5) I fixed the AOSP Launcher for several things:
Removed the google search bar by request.
Added more than one screen for scrolling.
Updated the dock icons to things more useful.
Apps installed with Google Play will automatically be added to the home screen.
I think you will like this launcher better

    6) Build.prop edit to open up the Google Play store to APPs that normally say "not compatible".
I am spoofing a Samsung device (Nexus 10) that will show almost any APP as compatible.
This should also allow Netflix HD but I have not tested it.
Your device will show up in google play as Nexus 10 device not a M8! Understand this please.
I also left the original build.prop in the ROM called build.orig.
If you want to go back, just use ES FIle Explorer or a root file explorer and rename build.prop to build.old
    Then rename build.orig to build.prop.
Go into settings, apps, all and go into the Google Play app. Clear the cache and data.
Reboot! You should be back to showing up as a M8.

    7) Fixed a new recovery issue! What they did this time was pretty stupid if you ask me.
They modified recovery to install XBMC from a TAR file located in /system/
What this causes is anytime you use recovery to install a patch (like my CPU patcher) it re-installs XBMC.
Why they did this is beyond me! Just stick with the preinstall script since it works!
So I reverted back to that. Anything in /system/preinstall will get installed on first boot and ONLY first boot.
If you do a factory reset, it will get re-installed again.
Right now the modified XBMC from the 7/22 ROM is in that.
If you don't want this XBMC to be installed after a factory reset, simply delete anything in /system/preinstall.

    8) Xbox and PS3 KO modules are now installed on boot.
This should make wired PS3 and Xbox controllers work.
I do not have one and cannot test so let me know.
BT controllers still don't work due to AML drivers.

    9) 1080 24hz support!!!! Yep, it's there now in display settings!
Basically the setting 1080i 50hz was replaced with 1080P 24hz.
Special thanks to Hardware GURU for coming up with this on the Neo X8.
He told me what he did and then I implemented in the M8 ROM.

    10) Added bonus! CPU fixer patches!
In this ZIP is a CPU_fixer folder. These zips can be used to adjust your minimum CPU frequency and Governor. See the README.txt in that folder for an explanation and how to install them.

    11) 720P patcher! This is for people with 720P only TVs. If you have a 1080P TV I suggest you not use this.
The stock ROM desktop is locked to 1080 resolution even if you set to 720P.
Yes the output to the TV is 720P but the desktop resolution is locked to 1080.
This throws off some media player APPs because they think you are in 1920x1080 mode and your not.
Videos then play weird with a small box skewed over. This is noticeable in XBMC.
SEE THE README in the patch folder for more information! A TON more information about this and how to install.
Also in that folder I give you CPU fixer patches that work with the 720P patch.
DO NOT interchange CPU fixer patches between 1080 and the 720P patch!!! You have been warned.

    12) Boot logo AML badge now displays 1080 or 720 depending on what resolution you are booting in.
This is helpful to know exactly what mode you are switched to.

    13) I added a reboot APP that will allow optional reboot options like reboot to recovery for easier updates.

    14) Carrier spoofs for better APP compatibility.

    15) The usual tweaks I do for better performance e.g. TCP buffers sizes, etc etc.

    16) Did some "theme'ing". Hope you like it!

READ THE README.TXT in the ZIP download for instructions!
The ZIP download has the ROM and other goodies inside.
DO NOT simply put this ZIP download on SDcard and expect it to work!!!

Thanx Bob for the fast release. No problem after updated to latest rom. Just me who did not familiar with swype keyboard. Is there any option to turn it off?
Good mod to set default as nexus but i'm still can't use tvapp.so apps. Maybe need to custom the app itself to be compatible with M8
