Sounds like your SD Card has bad sectors, nandroid was corrupted, test another in future for critical tasks like flashing.

You have to read those instructions:

you may also want to install Moborobo to make sure you’ve got the right drivers.

follow instructions step by step and if doesn't connect then it can't. Read unbricking threads in this subforum pages.

      flash_image recovery /path/to/recovery.img
      Good.

TWRP was not the problem. Quite a few have had success with it on M8. As I said in OP, after flashing TWRP, recovery.img file in root needs deleting.

If you flashed 1.8 successfully then your nandroid file was corrupted. Where it got corrupted I don't know but sounds like your SD Card. use another for flashing.

Anyway Abdul is doing a second version he will upload tonight. Download that and flash.

Finless 1.5b1 and TWRP Acemax m8

For Finless 1.5b1, the TWRP_m8 works ok.

        See my report here:
        http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...mart-S89/page4 #64

With Finless 1.5b1 there was no problem with recovery.img (I didn't have to delete it), nor with booting into TWRP (by rebooting into recovery mode).

              Quick Question Re: /Data folder

Hey Washere & Abdul - thanks for your continuing support and contributions to this board/community. It is much appreciated. I have a quick question; I noticed that while this TWRP works amazingly well (and quickly I might add), it does not seem to backup the data folder containing the XBMC files (addons, settings, etc in the folder data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/)... Is there a way to modify the TWRP settings to allow for a "complete" image of the system at hand? Anyone have any insight on this?
              Thanks!

NEW DOWNLOAD LINK FOR VERSION 2:
              http://www.freak-tab.de/abdul_pt/aml/TWRP_m8.zip

              Needs wireless mouse or similar
M8 remote doesn't work, as TWRP needs swiping confirm button, other air mouse might

              Changelog for Version 2:
              * Fixed installation bugs
              * Added options to backup boot loader, ubootenv & cache

              Old Notes for Version 1:

              I discovered:

              * There was a bug of still going into old 3e recovery: I found was fixed by:

+ Delete file: recovery.img in root of internal memory AFTER flashing the TWRP_m8.zip in recovery

This might have beenfixed by Abdul in version 2!

              I Still Recommend:

              * Restore backup from physical SD-Card to avoid certain problems
              (see link below)

+ Location is in the root of your choice, internal or sd-card, /TWRP folder

              * Backup once a month and save to computer & delete older backups

              * Flash restore from sd-card if you crash your system

See my full report for bugs and fixes for M8 TWRP in my posts #56, #57, #59 & #60 here:

Backup your whole Android system now & before major messing about in future.

              Thanks Abdul.

What happens when you backup data ? or isn't there a data option on the backup menu ?
                if [ $up.post.type = $type.two.lazy.to_use_google ] || [ $up.post.type = $type.silly_question ];

Hey Abdul, thanks for the quick reply!
To be perfectly honest, I am able to run the recovery from the SD card, and not install it directly to the system, and it still seems to work perfectly. Which is weird, but never mind that.

I made sure to check off each box for backing up everything, it seems that when I restore to another new box, it copies everything perfectly except for whats inside those folders...perhaps because they are hidden? Perhaps because it formats the data folder after the restore operation?

I was using CWM port on the mx2 AML8726 boxes (g18ref) and had no issues there, but holy jesus youre port is so much faster at backup & restore.

                  Gracias!

Can you check inside the data backup if the folders are there ?

I'm working on porting it to the aml 8726

I'd love to, but I can't seem to find the right program to look at the .win files generated...is there a program I should use for Windows? WinRar doesn't pick it up as an archive unfortunately.

It backed up & restored that folder for me whether restoring from RAM or SD-CRD.

That's probably why. Who knows what else is missing. Could be a huge waste of time as system grows. Best not to mess about with the basic system.

Thanks for your help washere, and Abdul of course.
I've used Version 2 now, installed the TWRP recovery thru the stock recovery menu. Now TWRP loads up just fine through toothpick method.
Now, Once I ran the backup through again, it still did not transfer the data folder over properly. It's only got what would be there from a fresh XBMC install. I've triple checked my work, and I can't seem to find what's causing this.
Perhaps it has something to do with this? (see attached screenshot of the recovery process.)

assuming you installed TWRP properly this time:
long shot but could be bad sectors, try:

                            copy folder to sd-card
rename and keep folder (so possible bad sectors remain occupied)
                            copy back from sd-card
                            backup and restore to test

if actual files are corrupted (not sectors) I'd reinstall xbmc afresh

                            good luck

                              Also take out sd-card
Make sure it's not running twrp from there still

                              Then:
Backup & restore using internal memory
                              This also eliminates sd-card

Then can do a sd-card later to compare

                              Wait till completesuit 100%

I honestly don't know what to say. The third time is a charm. For some reason, it is backing up everything properly now. I haven't changed my method, it just started to take all the data.
Thanks so much Abdul & Washere for your help - you've been awesome!

Now all we have to get done is a firmware without interlacing issues & we're good to go!
