Honestly,I am not sure about this...I find some info from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Ef...y_Video_Coding

And I am not clear about what high profile mean,on wikipedia page,it says :

Version 1 of the HEVC standard defines three profiles: Main, Main 10, and Main Still Picture.

    The July 2014 range extensions define 21 additional profiles: Monochrome, Monochrome 12, Monochrome 16, Main 12, Main 4:2:2 10, Main 4:2:2 12, Main 4:4:4, Main 4:4:4 10, Main 4:4:4 12,Monochrome 12 Intra, Monochrome 16 Intra, Main 12 Intra, Main 4:2:2 10 Intra, Main 4:2:2 12 Intra, Main 4:4:4 Intra, Main 4:4:4 10 Intra,Main 4:4:4 12 Intra, Main 4:4:4 16 Intra, Main 4:4:4 Still Picture, Main 4:4:4 16 Still Picture, and High Throughput 4:4:4 16 Intra.

So you mean version 2 is the high profile? But it comes up on July 2014..How Rk3288 supports it,it's so new.

Right now x265 performs fantastically at extreme low bitrates... like 500kbps for 1080p. At that bitrate, x264 is predictably a mess with ragged edges and blocking, banding. x265 is much cleaner, easily 2x better. BUT it still falls into the 'low quality' bracket. No matter that it is 2x better, it is still not something most people want to watch.

As you increase the bitrate towards something more reasonable...like 8Mbps for 1080p....x265 isn't really outperforming x264 by a significant margin. In some cases it's worse at the same bitrate because it's soft/blurry.

That's going to change over time but right now you would be nuts to think of converting your library to HEVC.

Yup something funny going on. Connecting to my monitor via HDMI (1080 p 60Hz) there is sound on my monitor's (HP w2408h) speakers. Selecting pass through with this setup does result in the digital noise (as expected) However, when I connect to my receiver (Yamaha RX-V671) there is no sound via HDMI, only via SPDIF. Selecting pass through (Stock XBMC) only provides stereo but the video jumps at roughly 1 second intervals.

I previously calibrated the EPSON 8500UB projector using the WOW disk from Disney and a LG blu ray player. The Beelink Box HDMI output is pretty much spot on judging from the calibration images provided by no_spam_for_me. No color/contrast adjustment necessary.

I don't have your cool TV device. But I have tab with the same RK CPU (Pipo P1).
I would like to understand and help with your issue about Google Music. Please give me a detailed scenario, so that I can recreate it.
I have tried but might missunderstand how you do this.

Pretty simple, just start a playlist or an artist. Google Music will play the first song in the list and when it's time for song number 2 it's just stop and idle (no sound), indicator in list shows playing but bottom bar shows idle.

Tool to see what an HDMI receiver (i.e. TV, Projector, AV Receiver) is responding with?

Folks, Is there a tool that I could use to see what the HDMI receiver is responding with?

XBMC is blazing fast and responsive on the R89. I've encountered a few issues.
                      1. One 1080p mkv has green flashes in it -- not sure yet if that's how the box responds when the wifi speed is on the edge or if it doesn't like something about the file.
                      2. Known issue, but HDMI audio through a receiver doesn't currently work. Through spdif, DTS and Dolby get downmixed to stereo.
                      3. Some repos get a "script error" when trying to load. Haven't yet tested this thoroughly, but some things work very well (much faster and smoother than S89) and others are not quite right.

Here is a video that the R89 appears to be tripping over.

XBMC, ICEFILMS, Ferris Bueller's Day off, Movreel, Part one of a two part file - this is one of the few surround sound (DD5.1) files on Icefilms

Netflix tops out at 1700 kbps, but it's stable and looks good.

Seeing some issues with video in a few apps. Slingbox has stuttering video on the R89, but works well on the AMLogic-based S89. WatchESPN is also a bit stuttery. The issues aren't because of bandwidth, just seems to be how the video renderer is processing it.

Netflix is a little bit pixelated on my end. Maybe if the R89 can be spoofed as a Nexus 10 it could improve?

PS Where do you see the bitrate?

I think most of the Android boxes are locked to 1700 kbps max. I think there's a DRM implementation required to exceed that. The Fire TV will go to 5800 kbps, for example.

The video with the resolution/bandwidth info is called Example Short 23.976. There may be more that have that, too.
