Did a fresh install of Windows 7 on my netbook to see if that makes a difference , but still can't get the flashing started on my P9.

The symptoms are the same as on my 'normal' Desktop. As soon as I hit switch on the androidtool. The tablet seems to turn off and the flash fails when I press run. After installing the driver. it says on the device manager Rockusb Device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I have been trying to restart the tablet by pushing power and esc, but that doesn't seem to help.

Since other people seem to be able to flash the device, there must be something I am doing wrong here. Maybe some weird default safety setting on my tablet somewhere? Hope someone here can help me out, because I'd really think that I prefer Rileyrom over the stock firmware.

I have had my P9 for a little over a week now. I have also had a M9 Pro and a S2 which have been passed onto other members of the family - both still working well (with original configuration).
I installed version 1.4 on my P9 as I wanted one that was reasonably well tested as this was my first go at installing a custom ROM.
It took me a while to get the drivers sorted out, but was then pretty straight forward. (I won't feel so anxious next time)
        Thanks very much Randy!!!

        Here's a strange one ..........
The tablet kept showing that it was charging even when removed from the charger. Sometimes even the little red charging light was glowing. This didn't worry me too much as it's pretty obvious when you are charging and when you are not. More curiously, the tablet wouldn't shut down - when shutting down it would always reboot, i.e. it could never be turned off completely.
Anyway, after having used the tablet for about 5 days (after installing the ROM) it is now operating fine .... it doesn't always show as charging and can be shutdown as it should.
I didn't change anything, it just seems to have corrected itself (somehow).

Anyway, very happy with the result.
        Thanks again.

        ----------------------------------------------------

Since typing the above, the tablet has now gone back to "thinking that it's always charging" and not being able to be powered off.
I have no idea why ..... I hadn't even used it in between typing the post above and seeing that the problem had resurfaced.
        It's a strange one!

TWRP recovery don't work for me

            Hello everyone !!

I got the tablet yesterday. I followed the guide to put Riley 1.5 and everything went well: D

I tried to flash only the recovery but when I reboot the screen remains black.
so I tried to flash it all over again.
I put the TWRP instead of recovery.img. but I get the same result, the screen stays black on startup.

Now the tablet works but has no recovery

Thank you for all your work really.

Did anyone over here succeeded in running XBMC (or SPMC as a spinoff is named which is available in the Play Store)?

I will take a look at the recovery. It seems to have worked for a while and stopped.

                I haven't tried XBMC.

Yeah I did, I even installed xp on older laptop. Hoping that this might work. Here it is a bit different because the androidtool on xp doesn't even say loader found. The tablet just goes to black and the device manager says about the rockusb driver: The device cannot start. Androidtool just keep on saying: No Found any devices.

Oh and I also tried flashing manually. Pressing esc and power and then connecting the computer should start that. But it just gave me the following screen

Don't know what it means, but not that it was ready to flash.

I give up. I bought this tablet for reading the newspaper and some magazines. It does that well, so I don't complain. My phone running Cyanogenmod spoiled me with features like Titanium backup & ad-away which both require root. Reading this forum gave me the impression that flashing would not be that hard, but for some reason it is for me...

I'll keep an eye on this forum hoping somebody with similar problems comes with a fix, but I am not going to waste another afternoon on it.

Hi, I'm new here. I just bought a pipo p9 with 3G, as soon as I get it, will post here my feedback before and after Riley's rom. I have a pipo M9 too, it started to be a nice and very usable tablet after I flashed Riley's rom, hope this one performs even better

Hello Joris, maybe I had the same problem putting the ROM
I found the possible causes in 2 factors:
A - driver not installed correctly (on windows7)
B - put the tablet in "RECOVERY mode" instead of "DOWNLOAD mode"

                      Try this:

                      PART A
1- download these drivers and extract it on your pc with windows 7 ..

2-launching the executable as administrator and UNINSTALL the driver
3-Open the folder C: / Windows and do a search with these keywords "rockubs"
(In fact, if you have not installed the drivers correctly in previous times, you should find files by that name.)
                      4- delete these file.
5- Launch the executable as administrator and istall the drivers.

To prevent windows 7 installs its driver, you must do as the Riley Guide says.

                      START MENU->control panel->system->
advanced system settings->hardware-> setting for device installation.

Check "NO, let me decide" and "Never install drivers from windows update".

leaves the pc as it is.

                      PART B
1- the tablet MUST BE DISCONNECTED from the electrical outlet
2- tablet MUST BE DISCONNECTED from any USB port

3- press the two buttons at the top of the tablet until you see the message appear "PIPO" 2 times .. and after you see the word "no command" (the recovery is not installed) you've got it almost done.

                      OK got to this point.
4- connect the tablet to the PC via USB.
Windows will NOT recognize the tablet.

5- Now press the two buttons on top of the tablet and the tablet will automatically enter DOWNLOAD MODE

(the screen remains completely black I know .. but it is in download mode

Windows WILL recognize the tablet and so you will be able to put the firmware on the new pipo p9

                      Have fun

Thanks Edivad for your instructions. Got it solved in another way in the end. But your instructions contain some things I hadn't tried, so maybe it would have worked. But my P9 is running RileyROM 1.5 and I am very happy with that!

Although I already promised myself not to waste more time on this... I decided to look a little bit into flashing with linux. I started out with rkflashkit, but that didn't look to promising. Then some googling pointed me to Rockchip Linux Upgrade tool http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...x-Upgrade-Tool. Decided to give it a try & it took me 5 minutes to flash to RileyROM 1.5... Cool!

The firmware posted on the Pipo site dated 9/15 is actually the same firmware I used to make v1.5...created on 9/11 and 9/12...(3G and wifi versions). So, no...there isn't a newer version yet.

With the help of Abdul_pt, I've corrected the TWRP recovery for v1.5. I've tested it...and it works flawlessly on my P9.

Here is the new twrp_1.5.1.img file:

I'm uploading the whole ROM again (v1.5.1) to post #1 (I will change the link when it's done uploading) It is the same ROM with the new TWRP added, just in case you haven't already downloaded the ROM.

Post #1 has been updated with links to v1.5.1 with the working TWRP. I also updated the download link for just the TWRP file. Note: This new TWRP will only work with v1.5 or later (I hope).
