Where did you take the 5v supply from to the fan?

A mobile phone charging plug/adaptor. It has the usb connection to plug the fan/cooling pad in. But you have to flick it off at the socket when your done with the tv box otherwise it's buzzing all night!

Sorry, I was referring to the OP and his fan modification on the M8 board.

I am about to cut up an old usb lead and just plug it back into the usb port, simple really. Will let you know how I get on later.

And maybe you should use a Y-cable (extension cord) like this

to use the USB-port also for other things...

                Well, so far so good.
Decided to add another full-size fan onto the bottom as suggested a couple of posts earlier, now I know its as easy as cutting up an old usb lead and soldering the wires to the fan I thought I may aswell. Both fans are 12v but are running perfectly well on 5v, albeit no doubt slower. Box is running very cool and so far no lockups or reboots. I imagine that the exterior fan option would be enough (I would still take out the metal plate/ballast so that the fan can draw the heat all the way through the box), but I am not going to bother taking out the internal fan.

I am sure a modified case will accomodate this with all the silicon adapters supplied.

well dont i feel like a fool, ive spent days on end trying to figure out why my m8 kept locking up... id reconfigured xbmc nearly 100 times thinking it must be some rogue addon causing the lockups! then I happened across this thread... opened up the box and sure enough one of the plastic legs holding the heatsink down had broken and the poor unit had been overheating this whole time!

Thank you to the OP and all the others, im going to add the noctura low noise fan, I had in my parts drawer.

Has anyone else done any cooling mods to these units?? if so please do post pics / details
