Received today
Well finally had arrived.
Start to work with the Box; So few points to remark from my early and short usage:
1) I miss the Power switcht on the Box and the absence of a good reboot app on the FW with sleep mode included into the app to do not be linked all times to the stock remote control and can hanlde it with any simple air mouse to turn off, reboot, sleep; same option for "power off" it´s missed on the bottom system bar;
2) It´s mandatory to change DPI from 160 to 240 on build.prop as stated before for others, working correct.
3) A problem found it´s that "No-Frills CPU" app can not apply the parameters after the reboot, this include the turn off with the stock remote or with the Petrus App, because report that the "reboot" or "turn off" was uncomplete; I don´t know if this is a real problem or this can be linked to the problem reported from Bob regarding to the way as stock FW perform the "root", may be losing "rott" for a while when the Box re-start is ocurring and the app start with out "root" priviliges; it´s a point to look into.
4) Logitech C525 with the stock camer a app, work Ok with proper picture/bright, and can record videos on 720P resolution which it´s good. I had suffered one crash / reboot with black screen when the camera app try to do a "not authorized action"; then It was stable...
5) The 4K - 30 Hz option make looks strange the user interfance and icons "fuzzy", sure a UI for 4K-30HZ option must be added; so for the moment I have to use the Box with the UI in 1080p-60 hz with "big fonts".
Just my first impressions; the aluminum enclosure it´s fantastic, the Box feels very well costructed; hopefully we will receive from Tronsmart/ Allwinner soon the promised Linux FW, and the updated Android FW may be first the upgraded 4.4.2 FW and soon then the Lollipop FW. Overall and preliminary I had to say that I feel it´s a good TV Box.
Some more impressions:
6) Contrast / Saturation it´s right, not need to use extra apps to correct it like in RK3188 devices; the options included into the Rom can be used to customize it to the preferred for each one.
7) Tronsmart TSM01 and Rii Mini I8 tested, both work Ok, fully functional, just customized a .kl file for Rii mini I8.
8) I had found that Kodi RC2 direct internet streaming playback performance it´s acceptable; there is a room to be improved; I remark that I´m using both, libstagefright and MediaCodec "On".Last edited by BTR11; 05 December 2014, 20:35.

But with Android or Linux/Ubuntu FWs, both, the Kodi/XBMC playback capabilities must be superlative for a TV Box like Draco is, if they fail to reach that, this will be a big / expensive fail for the users, buyers of this Draco AW80.

Allwinner / Tronsmart tech/professional commitment is under critical test these days.

The lack of proper licenses is also a major reason that we can't touch the chips from the company.
Too many legal problems behind.

There are only a few choices left after excluding those with potential legal issues (e.g. Allwinner),
AND could meet the price point for this type of products.
They are:
Rockchip, AMLogic, MStar, HiSilicon and Realtek.
Further exclusions:
Realtek is dropped because of very weak software support even though it's very cheap;
HiSilicon is dropped because of un-openness of software;
MStar is dropped because of the strange way the deploy Android, numerous patches;

I got my Draco AW80 today!
Originally posted by fredphoesh View PostMinix, I am very happy with my AW80 box... plays and feels better than my Tronsmart S89 and CS918 boxes, and can do things (like play Flash based video websites like TennisTV.com) better than any android device I have, including my nexus 10, and Note 4... so perhaps your negativity is something that is your personal issue with Allwinner, because from here it does not seem justified. Also this thread is for people who have received their boxes and are reporting back about it, not for a competing manufacturer to spread bad feelings.
Buyers' perspective are different from makers', you're not the one to be penalised.
We're not on the same side so it's normal that we have different opinions.
Nothing to be argued about. Just buy and use whatever you like.
It can't handle videos fluently is a fact though. Cheers.
