    Pipo P9 RileyROM 1.7

I ran across a firmware update from one of my sources that was uploaded 11/9/14. I'm not really sure what's changed other than some added bloatware that wasn't present before (which I removed). I've made a new ROM with it and it's running fine on my P9. This appears to be for the 3G version of the tablet, but like I said, it's running OK on my wifi version.

It's still using the #192 kernel...so the updates must be in the system files. Be sure to flash the loader.bin file if you are coming from 1.5 or earlier.

    This ROM is:

Rooted...this time with Clockworkmod Superuser (it solved some problems on some other tablets)
    Debloated
English default (but full language support is included)
Google Play Store fixes to allow more compatible apps
    Init.d/Busybox support added
2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12gb user app space available by selecting the desired parameter file
    Reboot app by Petrus
Auto Install feature - installs APK files from the external SD (autoinstall folder)
    Multi-user support added
TWRP recovery included in the RileyROM folder (same as the v1.5.1 TWRP...I've tested it)

    Download 3G Version

Download WIFI Version (This has some more aggressive build.prop tweaks for battery savings)

    Flashing Instructions

Turn tablet on, and connect the USB to your PC.
Open the AndroidTool.exe with "Run as Administrator"
    Click the "Switch" button
See that the flash tool recognizes the device in "Loader" mode.
Make sure all items are checked on the list of ROM components
Select the desired parameter file by clicking the little box next to the parameter line. The parameter files are in the RileyROM folder. The number indicates the size in GB you will allocate for app space.
    Click "Run"
Wait for the ROM to complete. When it's done, the tablet will reboot to stock recovery and format the partitions. Ignore the first error in recovery and just let it run. When it's finished, your tablet will boot to system.
Let the system boot all the way. Open the app drawer and watch your autoinstall apps (if any) populate to the app drawer.

If you choose to flash the TWRP recovery:

With the flash tool still open, uncheck everything except recovery (yes, it's OK to uncheck the boot loader this time).

Just like you selected the parameter file, click the little box next to recovery and browse the RileyROM folder for TWRP_1.5.1.img and select it.

    Click "Switch"
    Click "Run"

When the flash is finished, your tablet will reboot to the system. Wait for the system to finish loading. Open the app drawer and click the Reboot App. You will need to confirm permission in Superuser.

Select "Reboot to Recovery" on the menu and confirm.

Your tablet will reboot to TWRP Recovery

I hope you enjoy this ROM. Please consider a donation to support future RileyROM development.

    Hi!
V1.6 works good! Way to go!
Are you going to post the WiFi version of the ROM? (I saw what you wrote above about running it on your P9)
Will I loose all the data by installing the new ROM, or can I just bypass the "Format" step?

Each time you flash you must erase everything. It is good to have a Titanium backup.

I know it's not the best place where to ask it, but there will be Pipo p9 users reading this for sure.
Are you satisfied with this tablet?
How does wifi behave compared with M series Pipo's?
On 3g model, with modem activated, how is battery duration?

          Thanks in advance!

To me, the P9 is the best tablet I've owned. Results may very...but I'm sure you would be pleased.

The most important thing for you is that you don't stop updating the ROM! ☺

                Wi-fi on 3g version

Hi, Randy! I have tested this ROM for a day. Everything seems to be fine, but wi-fi doesn't sleep. I did "wipe dalvick", rebooted a couple of times - nothing has changed. I have a version with 3g.

1.7 seems to have broken my GPS. It was working fine on 1.6. I left GPS test up for an hour with no fixes.

It also won't allow me to switch runtime to ART. Every time I try, it reboots but instead of changing and "Android is Upgrading" it just reboots normal and stays on Dalvik.

Please understand that I get test versions of firmware to develop. Just because there is newer firmware doesn't necessarily mean it's better. I'm running v1.7 on mine without any problems so far...but I prefer to leave wifi on all the time...and I didn't test GPS or ART (thanks for the report).

The solution would be to flash back to 1.6 if those features are important to your use of the device. v1.6 is very stable.

Maybe we will get better results on the next firmware I get.

Do you know when Pipo will release 4.4.4 for the P9? or maybe they'll skip it altogether for 5.0?

For the record.. I tried Oma's while I needed to reflash anyway, and his is ported from the P4, 4.4.4 to work on the P9 given you flash the #192 P9 kernel. I didn't really like his, as he has a lot of extra apps installed. Didn't test it long enough to know if there was any significant improvement from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, also different roms from different devs so that could have affected any possible outcome as well.

Well then I got to thinking if Oma didn't do anything special, and he just tried the P4 on the P9 and it worked.. So I tried flashing RileyRom P4 2.0 with the P9 #192 kernel.. nogo.. Sooooo then I tried mixing Oma's system with the rest Rileyrom 1.6 P9.. and the touch screen wouldn't work properly. End result after tinkering and trying to get Riley 4.4.4 on my P9 is I soft bricked my device.

All is well though, as I am now back on RileyRom1.6 haha.

                              Battery draining

                              Hi!
Recently had a problem with battery. It took about 5-6 hours (of night time, while I don't use it) to completely drain it.
Returned to V1.6 - looks fine.
May be the "3G" part of the firmware is the reason for the issue?
