Minix NEO X8-H Plus release, did it surprise you guys?

Hi Guys:

Minix just release their new model tv box, Neo x8-h plus.

from the name, we should know this is the update version of the old neo x8-h. here is the improvement.

cpu, change from Amlogic S802-H to Amlogic s812-h;
ethernet, change from 100mbps to 1000mbps Gigabit ethernet.
wifi, change from ap6330 to ap6335 which support 802.11ac

and it add the h.265 hardware decoding.

do you like this improvement? any thoughts? welcome to talk in my tread.

In my opinion,it should be the best media player in the market right now since they improve a lot over the neo x8-h. and most of the people already happy with the newest update on neo x8-h.

i already get the sample, and will prepare the detail review for this model asap.

it should work, they use the S812-H chip, and they mark a big dolby/dolby plus logo on their package, ,

Sorry if I interfere, but at the s802 the -H only means downsize/-mix to stereo at the SoC (by hw at a special hw-part which includes the licence) but this doesn't mean anything about path-through (it's another story), but because the S802 can handle path-through I think the S812 will also (last but not least the S812 is a S802 with H.265 hw decoding and 1000M)...

Are you sure it 'only' uses the S812 and not the S812-H I have seen talking about at another device (because of DD/DTS)?
But I also read

There should not be hardware differences between S812 and S812-H SoC, expect the latter will come with an SDK supporting Dolby Digital & DTS with the right licenses, and any media app in Android should be able to handle these audio formats. 5-ch and 7-ch pass-though is said to be supported too.

Request Trade-In of X8-H for New "Plus" Model

Geekbuying.....can I return my X8-H to you due to overall dissatisfaction with the manufacturer, Minix?
I have had the X8-H for 6 months and thus it is still under the one year warranty. The box doesn't work as advertised, which is supported by the many owners with documented and unresolved complaints with the Android firmware for this model.

I will send the "defective" unit back at my expense for $149.99 credit. I will let you charge my credit card on file for the $10.99 difference for the "Plus" Model.

P.S. I have all the original packaging and accessories. The unit has never been modified and looks like new.

Does this mean that there will be more whinging people and half finished product ? was this a marketing decesion to try get in early this time because last time they released too late with the s802 and missed most of the market share

If you just need a media box, then Neo x8-h plus should be better, but Tronsmart Draco AW80 has potential,all winner and tronsmart are working hard to collect feedback from first users, and give solution, also in near future, you can get linux or even windows RT in draco aw80. if you want to "play" the device, then maybe try draco aw80. just my 2 cents.

We already get the first bulk neo x8-h plus in stock, and once finished the QC(quality check), we will ship the orders immediately!

amlogic s812 and S802 should pin to pin, minix has run the neo x8 and neo x8-h for a while, and they know amlogic better than before, so i think this is not just a marketing decision, it also a good media box.
