Fixing DEEP SLEEP or power off with IR remote

My ROM is pretty much done so I am going to release it now.
If I figure out this deep sleep, I will release a patch.

Now first off I am trying to understand this IR remote power off issue and deep sleep.

When I use the power button on the remote with a short press, the system goes to sleep. I can tell it still has power because the LEDs on my USB hub are still on. When I press power button again, it does wake up.
Do I have to wait a long time to see the deep sleep issue?

Did you know about this functionality?
Instead of a short press on the power button, if you hold it in you will get a power menu. If I select sleep vs power off the system goes to sleep (USB hub LEDs on) and I can wake it up again. However, if I select power off from this menu, the X8 powers off (LEDs on USB hub are off). The remote will not power it on. This is expected functionality to me?

In both cases of sleep why am I able to wake it with no issues? Again do I have to wait for some period of time and then it goes to deep sleep?

So far I have waited an hour and my IR remote wakes up the box.

So what is the problem? Do I have to wait more?

Is it possible I have to turn off my TV so the box sees no HDMI plugged in or something?

Does it go to sleep and awakes using a generic USB RF air mouse ?

The Deep Sleep is immediate, not more than 5-8 seconds.

Yes, if you press on the Power button longer the power menu will show up with both the Minix's remote and generic air mouses. A short press should put it into the sleep mode, but most people use the soft mode in the power menu to put their unit into Sleep mode because they are using a generic USB air mouse.

If you select "Sleep" or "Power Off" in the power menu the Minix's LED should not be lit, but you are correct that there is still power to the USB hub for some funny reason. I just unplugged my powered USB hub and there is indeed power going through to the USB port. I am not sure , but I encountered a similar phenomenon with my G4, I unplugged the power adapter and there still power going through the HDMI cable from my HDTV to lit up the LED on the power adapter even though it was unplug ! ...the X-File theme was playing in my head at that point !

IR works all the time, so also the M1 (because they handle the power-button via IR)...

Minix also power off the USB at sleep (I think since beta002), so all these "remotes", which aren't really remotes (because they are wireless keyboards with maybe function keys), couldn't wakeup the system, because they only works via usb-dongle (best case HIT)...

Another storry would be wireless keyboards with learning IR which you have to teach...

So your telling me that some are So DIRE to have a USB remote work and are not willing to have the small little IR remote handy to power off and on? Really?

I am not sure I am going to spend too much time trying to fix that to be honest. Seems really trivial and the complaints are huge for this?

I am sorry but that seems a little nit picky to me when there are many other things that could work better.

LoL ...they are the real remotes and the Minix remotes are the crappy ones !
They shouldn't fix what wasn't broken in the first place !

Does it make any sense to you that with v001 everything worked and then with v002 you need two remotes to do the same thing ? ...sounds kind of like a Laurel and Hardy show at Minix !

I need an update.zip of v001 F/W so I can flash back from this silly v002 so I can use a real remote !

                Your kidding right?
It is that much of a pain to keep the little IR remote handy for power off that you would be willing to go back to a old firmware with many other bugs and crashes?

                I think I give up

Honestly Bob, yes I am being that finicky. I have the A2 air mouse which does not have IR so it will not turn it on. I use my box in the bedroom so now have to keep a second remote next to my bed just to turn it on, whereas before the A2 worked fine. If this is a big deal to fix then don't worry about it but it just seems to me that I've lost some functionality and ease of use.

Of course it's not the end of the world, just a bit of a pain and somewhat unnecessary.

I, as always, appreciate your work, whether you fix this or not.

I am not kidding, when you service many customers with Minix boxes, it is kind of stupid to tell them now they need two remotes to do the same thing. I had no crashes or problems with v001, only other annoyance was lack of WiFi Off option which was fixed with a 3rd party app !

Bigleg, you should also complain on the Minix forums in their v002 thread, there was even a thread and wishlist on this very issue.

Minix sent me a other remote with USB dongle. I do not know what it is. It's called a Neo M1.
                      Is this the same thing?

If so, I can look into it a little but I do find this odd that it is a big hassle to keep another little remote handy. But hey... Enough want it so if I can figure it out without too much hassle I will.

No good Bob, the M1 uses IR. Just their "Flagship" A2 doesn't! To fix it power needs to remain to USB when in sleep mode

Correct, the M1 has both IR and RF sensors and no keyboard which defeats the purpose of their own A2 remote which is their flagship remote, plus the battery life on the M1 is laughable like you need to charge every other day ! ...LoL

Yes I just played with the M1 and it's 2.4 but also IR for power.
Now I will say when powering off with IR the USB hub is still live!
So makes me wonder what the USB A2 remote sends as a key code for power off.

For the IR remote it is 116
                            0x18 116 #POWER WAKE

Seems to me someone with the key code map for the A2 could remap this to match?

Are we sure from 001 to 002 that the only change was the key code?

OK so I just tested something. I have a Logiteck K400 keyboard. When I hit the power button on it, it does shut off the box (sleep). USB hub is still powered. Hit the power again on the keyboard and it wont wake up. BUT the IR remote did wake it up.

This is not a deep sleep issue! This is either a keycode issue or while in sleep, the box is not listening to USB input.

Deep Sleep is a lower voltage mode and I am pretty sure it is NOT going into that.
