          Bob,
I love all the work you do for the roms, but that rant was the best thing I've seen on this forum. Please keep up your awesome work.

I can see how this might be annoying if you have a different remote that uses a USB dongle, you'd have to keep either the original IR remote or M1 handy to power on the X8 when in standby. The ideal solution would be for whatever keyboard/airmouse or remote you use having an IR emitter and the ability to program the code used for power, some of them have this facility I believe.

As long as wake up from stand by works by IR I'm OK as I'll either be using my Philips Pronto via IR or the M1 but I can see it being annoying with other RF remotes like the Rii ones or indeed the MINIX A2 if that doesn't do power via IR.

I don't post here a lot, but I definitely lurk.
The problem is more than "not wanting to get off my ass", IMO.
The X8-H that I bought came with both the chintzy IR remote, as well as the Neo M1 remote as a "free gift" from Geekbuying. Additionally, I bought the Neo A2 for the keyboard functionality - little did I know I'd also need it for the better battery over the M1.
Anyway, I currently have to be very careful to not hit the power button on the remotes as it puts it into the deep sleep mode and in order to turn it back on I have to get up to the box and turn it back on. A moderate inconvenience, yes, but can you imagine a manufacturer like Vizio or Sony having such a "feature" in their product and people being happy with it?

Mr. Bob/Finless, this squarely does NOT rest on your shoulders, but on Minix's. Flat out - this is broken and I feel bad for paying $180 total for a broken product that they ended up releasing a newer version a mere 40 days after I bought mine. However, what people are trying to point out is that we would like the Minix remote(s) to work correctly with the Minix box if at all possible. It's great that people had the functionality in their V1 software (I don't, and I'm still on V1), and it sucks that it's now not working right in V2.

I'm now going to use some words that it looks like others have forgotten:
If you could PLEASE fix this issue we would all be grateful. If not, that's OK, we don't blame you (well I don't at least). We know Minix needs to drastically step up their software game to support their admittedly good hardware. THANK YOU for your time and effort.

But don't the original and M1 not turn it back on with an IR signal?

My Minix M1 has IR as well as 2.4 so yes it powers it off and back on but you have to be line of sight to the box for the IR part to work.

                      A patch would be great.

Hi Bob, I have 3 of these boxes, bedroom, lounge and gym area and we use logitech kr400 on all of them. I stayed on stock rom until now and the wife was happy... now she cant turn it on from the keyboard so all hell is breaking loose, I also stream off a NAS so only use usb ports for keyboard. Can you fix so I can get the WAF back (Wife Acceptance Factor)....

that's an argument.... but I think they will handle it at the kernel so I'm not sure if Bob will be able to fix it, because he never touch the kernel at his mod's (also because he doesn't have to actual source-code of the kernel to recompile it)...

I can confirm that M1 remote wakes up sleeping x8h with finless 2.0 rom.

An ideal solution to the problem would be a setting that defaults to the behavior of 001 stable fw.

e.g.: turn off usb in deep sleep (*) yes/no
(*) on 'yes' usb only remotes cannot wake up the device

But shouldn't this be requested over at minix forums? There is a months old thread about it that could need some fresh voices http://www.minixforum.com/threads/mi...ate.385/page-4 or raise it again in the 002 bugtracker: http://www.minixforum.com/forums/bug...2-firmware.99/

It should and it indeed has. A lot of the time by the same people making different accounts pretending to be potential customers who are horrified about this.

Simple fact is as it's been explained here and at our forum. More people wanted their hdd's to shut off completely than those who didnt want to use an ir remote to turn their box back on. Quite rightly so, a $50+ hdd (sometimes containing priceless personal data) VS using a SUPPLIED remote or ya know, getting off your ass and walking a few metres to turn it on.
Here's another idea that I use, don't bother turning it off. I've done farts that use more power than these Android boxes. Considering I pay the third highest electricity price in the world (as of 2012, its gone way up since then) I don't see an issue. Mountain/molehill situation here I think.

Thanks as always for your hard work with ROMs and tweaks Bob! I'm sure you know it's very much appreciated

people get caught out with double or triple accounts to me makes no difference my old box and tv remote were pretty much 1 to 1 looking. Its always the box sellers Voicing and rambling on. yet 90% of them don't even ask permission if they could use the modded rom for resale
