Anyone working on firmware for the Eny M8S Amlogic S812 square box?

I also flashed the OpenELEC-Amlogic.S806-S812 form http://www.amlinux.ru/image/devel/
This gives you OpenElec Kodi 14.1.
It works nice, but some problems with hdmi CEC
-original remote does not work at all
-dts-hd and true hd passthrough does not work
-blue power light is on during standby
-can't wake the box when in suspend, or power on without reconnecting the powersupply.

Tvheadend works fine !

genuine m8 before clones many months ago for $75 from china was a good deal for me. But many new better cheap boxes available and even much better ones yet cheap to be released soon. Not to mention certain very soon to be released cheap yet quality brand phones better than anything available now. I've got stane's android plus latest kodi on m8 & it's superb. He doesn't do minor cosmetic tweaks and stick a logo on buggy chinese roms to market as his own, just fixes & codes from ground up for fun. He is a real dev & a good coder & does a thorough build on his roms from low level kernel & up. But busy now with a new job & move. He was the first dev to initiate 4k playback on xbmc, fixed networking for certain xbmc platforms, etc. I was going to buy one of the new sexy powerful cheap boxes soon but nothing wrong with kodi & 400+ heavy apps on m8 w/ stane's android, true smart tv. I'll wait till next autumn to buy another box direct from china cheap as prices fall & specs go up & up.

Latest aml sources + Kodi final + hevc patches, rooted... nothing special. Device itself works pretty nice. Has to be installed from sdcard because board check is not n200 on my firmware (my recovery.img needs to be on sdcard).

Thanks Stane! This firmware works great better than the original ENY Kodi firmware. No biggie but I cannot install the new Kodi 14.1 over the 14.0 because of a signature conflict. Strange but probably a Kodi glitch.

you need to remove 14.0 first then install 14.1

One other thing. Recovery is not working. The box does not boot to recovery when holding the recovery switch or using a reboot to recovery app.I flashed TWRP successfull but that didn't help. The box just boots in to the normal mode and skips recovery.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

DO NOT!!!!! I repeat DO NOT buy from China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not buy from anywhere on ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! No matter what. DO NOT buy from e-gay!!! They will F*ck you over!!!!!!!! I have ordered 7 M8s from ****. 3 of them never arrived. I paid for them immediately using buy it now and they never arrived! The other 4 DO NOT work and are unflashable plus they are used but listed as NEW on ****. I have boycotted ****, as they are not monitoring their sales. I feel as items that are used and broken but listed as new should be a #1 concern for **** to monitor. That is like the police department pulling people over for speeding but allowing a murderer to murder people while they are writing tickets. Makes no sense. Make sure that you DO NOT buy anything from:

I got most of my money back, I sold two of the boxes on Craigslist to break even. Two of the boxes I had to pay return shipping to China. Three of the boxes never arrived and **** gave my money back, but having to wait 35 business days to receive a box and then it never arrives can upset somebody. I paid immediately and had to wait two months to get my money back. That is bad business and I blame **** for not regulating properly. One item I bought disappeared off of my purchase history, it was blank due to the seller leaving **** after my purchase. I don't think sellers should be able to charge for an item and then never ship anything. They are fake sellers that hold your money for two months with no intent to ship an item. That should be illegal, more less not allowed on ****. What do you think?

Did you manage to fix this problem? I have just got an M8S - came with KOT49H.20150123 test-keys firmware installed.

Would like to be able to install & use TWRP.

That problem has been solved in the latest firmware. Only problem now is that Kodi shows black screen when playing video, so it's audio only.

Which Kodi version? New 15.0 doesn't change permissions needed by amcodec so it has to be disabled in kodi video settings as hw accelerator (enabled only libstagefright and MediaCodec).
