Can anyone please guide me on how to root the stock rom on OTT M8S Adnroid 4.4.2? I am trying to root it from past 2-days, using different 1-click root methods, but all failed. May be it is different for Android TV box.
Edit: Rooted now.

I attempted to update the firmware on an M8S box using an SD card, but it froze on the open android screen with the progress bar... Since then the box does not boot at all. I have tried a variety of different firmware versions from the links posted to this thread and several different cards with the toothpick in the av hole but to no avail, the device never initializes the HDMI display so the TV shows no signal.
Strangely however, the device response to the power button on the remote by changing the front light from blue to red and back again.
Also having opened the box up, it looks considerably different to the other M8S boxes shown here...
Any suggestions on what else i could try?

I suspect the hardware has failed?

I have an OTT M8S box and initially thought it's crap. horrible remote... I have fixed the remote issue which is just a mechincal flaw, as described in the link. Now I have zero problems!
bert64, I also bricked my device once, but was able to create a recovery SD. If you want I can send you the zip with all the files on it. Worth a try i guess... Had to boot with a toothpick in the AV. Can't remember if I had the card in or out when doing tho. But it's either or...
