AllWinner RikoMagic MK80 DTS/DD Passthrough...

Hi there guys,

I have the MK80 which is a great machine running Android 4.4.2. it's connected to the TV via HDMI and to my AVR (Yamaha) through optical cable.
Even though I set all audio settings (both in Android and in KODI) as needed with passthrough enabled and all, I don't get DTS or Dolby Digital on my receiver but only stereo sound.
Can anyone of you guys help out by compiling for me a version or Patch for Kodi that will enable full and smooth playback with proper DTS and DD?
PS: Currently running Kodi 14 but I have tried all kinds of other versions (latest VidOn, SPMC...) without success.

i have also MK80 With a Yamaha AVR and i receiv optical info on DECODER yamaha,
and full DTS & AC3 SOUND.

only with an original KODI that comes wiht MK80 Original ROM. i try to upgrade
to a newer version and passthrough it´s not working.

Very strange because I initially used the original version of Kodi that came with the Machine and the pass the pass through didn't work.
Can you tell me which version of Kodi came with your box? Any special settings you applied?...
I am in touch with their customer service and they confirm that there is such an issue but that they hope to fix it soon.
if they don't fix it I will have to return the machine because without proper DTS pass through it is worthless.

Hi guys.
Same on my box.
No DTS passthrough, with any other Kodi. Only DD 5.1.
I tried 14.0, 14.1, 14.2 beta and 15.0 alpha. Nothing.
With the kodi on the box Helix alpha 3, DTS is no problem.
But this is not the problem of the rikomagic box, also on the Tronsmart Octa.
I think we need a new FW maybe Lollipop.

of course this could be a chance, but i think that the custom roms are not handling the problem with passthrough, because they are build on the stock rom.
I read many articles since yesterday and i found out, that this ist a problem with allwinner and kodi.

But why ist alpha 3 running?

thanks for the info, but still i´m disagree with the lack of upgrades and support for the
mk80, i´m seriously thinking on sell my unit and buy a Minix Neo x8-H plus, more expensive
but there are full of webs whit support for this minipc.

I am amazed that your AVR recognizes the audio as DTS.
I have tried again yesterday on my machine and nothing. as soon as I enable all the passthrough features on Kodi and play a DTS or DD movie, there is no sound coming out and the AVR lcd screen goes crazy identifying the sound as DTS (or DD) and then regular stereo back and forth like crazy (again still with no sound coming out).
I am really frustrated with this issue and I have been in touch with RikoMagic who keep promising they'll release an update FW soon but so far nothing.
I will return it to them if it keeps this way.
I wish someone on this forum would check out this issue thoroughly and provide a patched version that will solve the issue for me and many others who have purchased this box or boxes with similar chips A80.

Because 15 alpha, I think they start to implement the parts of the 14 stock from allwinner at the 15 alpha...

I tested every kodi version also newer roms.
Same results.
Rikomagic or Tronsmart had to work on it.

I wrote a mail to rikomagic and described the problems.
They promised me that there will be a new rom in the next week.

We will see.

Conclusion to a long and painful set of trials...

I have been on this issue for the past 3 days very intensively. I have tried all the so called custom ROM out there (Finless, Dovless) and the result is just the same: DTS and DD Passthrough work but there's an unacceptable stutter in the picture every couple of seconds.
Finally I went back to the original Stock ROM which otherwise works perfectly until something better comes up.
I agree with some of the posts here and I think there's just no way that this will be resolved as long as all custom ROMs are based on the original one and that nothing will change until there's an updated ROM for this kind of chip.

I have been in touch with RikoMagic for the past month since I received the machine threatening to return it to them if they don't fix the passthrough issue (I am still under the protection program and can get my money back by returning it to them).
So far they have been quite responsive and to me as well have been promising they are working on a new ROM version that should fix this issue (among other things).
However this has been going on for a few weeks now and I think that all AllWinner A80 chip TV box owners should keep putting pressure on them on a regular basis to keep them motivated.

I want to thank those on this forum (Scooter123 and others) who have tried to help so far.
If someone ever finds a real solution to getting basic DTS and DD passthrough please let us know...
