MK808 Wifi Antenna fix! VIDEO to help you do it!

Yes one end to soldered ANT other end to GND.
Here is where I read it from,
Like I said though it's very directional, but the strength is good and stable.
If you do decide to do it, make the hole in the plastic with your soldering iron then chip away at it with a sharp knife when it's a good size. I've put the antenna on the side of the micro USB and the other side... makes no difference.

Antenna Mod
I accidentally ripped the antenna from the casing while pulling my unit apart to see it naked. So I figured now is a good time to check out what I can do while fixing it.
I pulled my broken old laptop computer apart and pulled out the wifi antenna (and some other interesting parts). There are two antennae, one with a wire about 18 inches and the other wire about 24 inches.
Some questions/observations:
My MK808B only has one antenna, and I read that the antenna needs to stay on the same side as the wire/ground, is this correct? Should I not wrap it around the unit to the other casing?
I do not have a solder, but I have electric tape. Can I just twist them together and tape them up and achieve the same result? The connection to the antenna paperclip is soldered. I taped it to prevent it from pulling apart.
The original machine had leads to connect them (third pic), can these be reused?
Thanks for any help.

I still have the ANT and GND attached to the unit, only pulled the casing antenna.Currently Inactive on Freaktab.com

I'm unfamiliar with soldering other antennas, but FOR SURE solder... don't just 'tie' the two end together then electical tape it. You can buy on any chinese store on **** for under $10 (even less probably) and you get the iron/solder/flux, etc. Then youtube some techiniques... honestly its pretty easy just test first on some junk electronics.

So I have an 808B (original or clone, hard to tell - uses same chipset and layout) which was having some wifi issues and also figured the internal antenna was causing my bluetooth remote/keyboard to act up. I replaced the antenna with a mini-coax cable, properly soldered with a threaded antenna connector at the end, and plugged in an antenna from an old router. My wifi signal seems a bit better, the bars do not drop down below 2. The speed is now ranging from 46 down to 19 mbps, though it has dropped down to 5mbps even after this modification.
I've used other wifi devices in the same part of this room before and never had any issues with interference from other devices or any problems with randomly dropped connections. I still have complete wifi connection drops from time to time, especially when streaming things on JustinTV or ustream. One improvement is my blutooth signal is much better, no more jerky cursor, no more repeating characters from the keyboard, etc. Is there some hardware limitation where these devices simply can't handle the throughput regardless of how strong the wifi signal is? Could it be due to a bug in the stock ROM I'm using? Any suggestions?

I don't own a MK808B, but the MK808 i've always soldered onto the side you show on Image2.
Always with the simple wire loop mod, no issues and it's super simple.

Hi, I have original mk808b, and I found that bluetooth interfers wifi dramatically. When no BT connection or transmission I am pretty happy with my WiFi performance - I get about 16-24 MBit/s.
But when I run BT connection in parallel (sound), my Wifi speed drops to 1-2Mbit/s. Is this fix intended for such situation?

good examples and pictures. I have 2 units of mk808 and both work perfectly with this mod, 4 bars... before 1 bar and tons of disconnects.
I can stream 720p stuff fine now over XBMC and netflix.

Thought I should add an update to this. I too ended up taking off my external antenna mod and instead did a loop wire antenna. I immediately noticed a marked improvement in the wifi signal. But that didn't solve everything.
I also upgraded to a 3amp ac adapter to power the unit and added a heatsink over the useless flat one that came from the factory. There was way too much heat building up in the little dongle, it was insane! Now I just have to be careful not to brush up against the heatsink while it's active!
It's not perfect but these fixes /mods make the unit actually function as it should.

Hi,
I have a mk808 for some time now and end up never using it because the wifi speed is so badI wanted to do this mod, but it seems that there are different versions of the board and they come in different conditions and so i don't know exactly what i should do with mine.
Here are some pictures of mine:
Can anyone give some direction on what do to here?
Thanks
