MK808 - Finless 1.6 Custom ROM

Guys let me explain a little.

Pre-1.5a I used an older version of the reboot APP. It had a problem with not unmounting all the file systems properly before issuing the cshut down command. In 1.5a ande above I am now using an updated version of the reboot APP which is suppose to unmount all the files systems before rebooting or shutting down the unit.

Now as for just unplugging the unit. Nothing here has changed! BUT I am warning you. Just because you never had a problem before does not mean you wont one time! Sure you might get by many times without issue but all it takes is for an APP or system service to be writing to NAND "when" you unplug and BAM... corrupted file system that may not allow you to boot back up. It has happened to MANY...

I cannot tell you how many posts I have seen where someone says "Hey I bought this unit and it worked fine. Then one day it would not boot and now is dead". I can pretty much assure you what happened is exactly what can happen. It got unplugged while something was writing to the file system!

NAND memory is just like a hard drive. It is NOT GOOD to just power off your PC or even a Linux system as something could be in the middle of writing to the hard drive or in our case the NAND hard drive! If that "coincidence" happens. There is a chance you will be bricked and cannot boot up again and will have to reflash the ROM.

So again... while you have not had a problem so far in just powering off the unit, it is NOT good practice! This is why many of these sticks now have a power off button on the status bar.

In 1,6 there is a new power down button, but my question, is how do you power this unit back up?

Kidding man... between 1.5a and 1.6 there should be no difference in wifi....

Look.... you can try it and if you do not like it..... 1.5a is stil available so you can flash back to that!

Just a question please.... WHY with the ease of flashing ROMS and ability to unbrick with RK30.... Do some people worry about flashing a new ROM and trying it? I honestly don't get the questions and insecurity? You will loose nothing! ROM's are NOT "magical" things that can hose your device forever! Well at least not Rockchip!

Agree with you...just that I'm using mk 808 daily in my business place,so far 1.5a is ruining great...
plan to flash 1.6 soon...

Only way, switch off & on the power source.

I explained this already... I do not know how to explain this more or explain to you all something YOU CANNOT HAVE!

This power down thing is fake. We do not have a tablet here that has a battery inside to keep time etc working. I do not know how to explain this anymore. You cannot get what cannot exist!

The powerdown button do only this: it turns out the software. (save way )
Then you must turn out the device.

On your last rom 1.5 a if I was to press the power button on the rc11 the device would go into what I thought was hibernate mode with a black screen. Pressing it again would boot back out of power save mode or what appeared to be powersave????? On the latest rom the screen does turn black for a few seconds before reverting back from black screen. Would a try powersave mode be another option instead of turning on/off ?

I've been using your MK808 1.5A Rom and it's been a champ. I took delivery of a new Quad-core Zealz GK802 a few days ago and ran a bunch of benchmarks (even made a video on YouTube), and the MK808 blows the GK802 away big time!

I look forward to flashing your new 1.6 Rom. It's probably a sad condition for one to be in, I mean not having an X-Box or a PS3 and wanting to play games on an HDMI Stick, but my biggest frustration is the lack of gamepad / game-controller support in all the Sticks with factory original firmware. The GK802 is useless that way. It seems that apps are locked out from being able to read/control the USB port. But anyway thanks to your ROM providing root access, I've been able to remedy that problem on the MK808.

Anybody know of a RK3066 based HDMI stick with Bluetooth that performs as well or better than the MK808?

This is the best ROM for MK808.

It would be nice if i can make a backup of whole ROM with all apps that i installed and settings that i changed.

Problems to flash MK808

I cannot enter the mode "Found RKAndroid MASS Storage USB". I get " Found RKAandroid MaskRom Rock USB" and if I try to flash, it says "Device cannot do Flash mode, because it is not msc device.
What is wrong?
Please help.

Try rebooting your computer after you have connected it for the first time and loaded drivers (as the instructions state), that fixed that message for me

NO WIFI

Hello Everyone. 1.5a works fine on my mk808. But when I upgraded to 1.6 I have no wifi and android market app does not work. I might have the wrong mk808. Anyone with a link for the the correct mk808 or the specs I should look for. Thanks.

Wifi and BT not working

Hello Bob,

I managed to get my MK808 wifi and bluetooth working again. Used ROM image MK808-F-B_update.zip

So I am back to the orginal f/w that was installed when I received it from the seller {rk30 JR003H eng box 4.1.1 20121126 180852 test-key}. Hardware inside the stick is Mediatek Mt6622N and MT5931 SA.
The circuit board has MK808 v1030 printed on it....Hope this helps others ....Would you be able to make a custom ROM from this image to your ROMs ....Would prefer using your ROM if possible.
