I tried the update.zip method.
Failed.
Got a android lying down with red !
Reboot and removed sd card but a pop up message keep appearing saying update failed and to remove the file or it will keep asking to delete.
Said yes and file was deleted from sd card
BUT the message keep popping up.
I checked the sd card in explorer and confirmed file deleted.
So how to get rid of the pop up message now?

Yes only pins 1 and 5 for power.
In this forum there is a lot of good info, if you read a lot I assure you will learn a lot.

Thanks Leolas.
As i was saying i got the pinout diagram you attahced. so only pin 1 and 5 need to be connected since it is for power only. No data. Right?
Ok. look like will do the proven method as you mentioned earlier.
No way i will know more than you. Not in a million years. LOL

PSU and mini usb wire I have too. Just need the guide now. Typing 'how to modify power adapter to use mini usb' in google, yahoo, youtbe NOT doing the trick. I managed to find pin out diagram for mini usb type b. Seem like pin 1(live) and pin 5(ground) are the only ones needed. Just want to be very sure before cutting the cables and trying not to kill the mk808 before actually using it. LOL.
BTW, I saw there are many CWM apps in Play store. Can those be used for v4.2.2? It seem from what i read in the description is to install the app and from there can do the recovery backup within Android itself. Just need experts like you to confirm.
Also I cannot find superuser app eventhough after using Root checker basic it say my mk808 is rooted. Is that right.
I remember reading Bob was saying he got a MK908 that is partially rooted only. If i remember or understand correctly.
But while installing busybox it says there is another copy of busybox already installed. So i uninstalled busybox so there is hopefully only one copy and not give problems.
If fully rooted there should be superuser and busybox installed, am i right?
Sorry for all the noob questions. My first time using Android devices.
Standard, Mini, and Micro USB plugs (not to scale). The white areas in these drawings represent hollow spaces. As the plugs are shown here, the USB logo (with optional letter A or B) is on the top of the overmold in all cases. Pin numbering looking into receptacles is mirrored from plugs, such that pin 1 on plug connects to pin 1 on the receptacle.
1 VBUS Red (or Orange) +5 V 2 D− White (or Gold) Data − 3 D+ Green Data + 4 GND Black (or Blue) Ground I use allways cwm from recovery and I recomend not use 3º party apks to control cwm cause it has unpredictable results.1 VBUS Red +5 V 2 D− White Data − 3 D+ Green Data + 4 ID None Permits distinction of host connection from slave connection
• host: connected to Signal ground
• slave: not connected5 GND Black Signal ground
If the device device come prerooted (usually comes in this way) you only need to install superuser or supersu app to control the root operations. Busybox comes usually installed but there is not problems if you install a new busybox, the market apps make the links to the bin automatic.
Dont worry about that, everyone starts being noob, i a couple of weeks maybe you can teach me about this devicesLast edited by leolas; 17 May 2013, 13:37.

The better way to see if reset button is ok is open the case carefully, the antennas are fragile.

I guess I need to use a better power supply.
Actually I have some Sony camera power adapter 5v 2a lying around but do not know how to mod it to use a mini usb.
I had been searching, googling, yahooing and youtubing all over since last night but cannot find a guide for it.
Anyone know of one please give me the link.
When you say cannot use update.zip you mean use Bob's Rktool included in Finless 2 and check the recovery option only correct? I will go re read the whole post after this before trying out.
About the reset button issue I wrote above is the button still there. I tried but do not feel any click when pressing it. The hole is on the top-left side not the blue LED hole.
Thanks for the quick reply

Great minds at work. Thanks.
Just got my MK808(non B) yesterday and wanted to do CWM recovery backup of the stock rom before installing Finless 2 beta(is it still in beta?). It came with v4.2.2 and pre rooted.
So I just need to know if all the files in the links works for v4.2.2 or just v4.1.1?
I also experienced sudden shut down the 2nd time I booted it and while trying out Wifidisplay apps.
Anyone else got this problem? Bought it from an **** HK seller.
After that the power adapter 5v 2a seem to be dead. I then tried it with my iphone adapter 5v 1a and it booted up with no issue.
This morning the 5v 2a adapter worked again without any problem. Any idea what happened? It is going to happen again? I am wondering if I need to contact seller to get a replacement adapter.
Yeah another thing is the reset button, I tried pressing it with a pin but did not feel any click. Was wondering if there is still a reset button in the newer batch. Anyone know.
Thanks and hope to get some feedback soon.
cwm recovery works in 4. 2. 2. But maybe you can't install it from update.zip in sdcard, then you need to install it using rk flash tool from your pc.

Is it recommended that the libstagefright.so addition be applied in addition to this or is it included?

Whay about adb to flash it? You can use wifi-adb to flash the recovery file, once the recovery is flashed you can use it to flash any Rom. Or better, you can use terminal emulator from android if you are root to flash the cwm recovery file.
