4) Market issues. Market issue "may" still exist. This is common on tablets that are not really supported by Google as a registered device. Most users have no issues but sometimes there can be, The 2 issues that seem to arise when your FIRST TIME try to use the Market are:

A) Cannot logon; "Cannot establish a reliable data connection" I have tried to recreate this and troubleshoot this. My belief if in fact this happens sometimes when Google servers are doing something or something is going on with them. WHen I had this happen once I simply waited a while and it worked later. So I cannot help too much here. My only suggestion to try is this a) Install a root file manager like root explorer or ES file manager (enable root access for them) b) Go in with the file manager and delete /data/misc/imei/imei or data.dat which ever one exists

B) Limited apps listed; I have reproduced this and know how to recreate it and fix it! This has to do (I beleive) that after a factory reset or a flash the tablet creates a ID based on some other IDs and a random key generator. Sometimes this ID Google does not like. So we have to clear that and reboot. YOU DO NOT EVER NEED TO REFLASH OR DO A FACOTRY RESET TO FIX THIS!!!! DO the following a) Again using a file manager that has root access go in and delete the follow folders from the /data/data directory. com.android.vending (not com.applib.vending!) com.android.vending.updater com.google.android.gm com.google.android.gsf b) Reboot and do nothing else but run the Market. YOu should get a prompt asking you to accept the Google terms of service. If you did not you did something wrong. Do it again. If you do get the prompt, accept and now the Market should work fully with TONS of apps showing up.

Hi,
Installed 1.4. Its awesome, really quick to load and use. Only one problem I have is using market place. I have to log in to google account but it comes up with an error about Data connection. I have switched off the mobile bits so only using wifi, but still giving me problems. Any ideas?

Yes the solution is after flashing go direct to the market and login.
If you first install apps and then do the login you have, cant esta....... bla bla bla.
No solution for that.
if you first install apps go to settings, privacy, and do factory reset.
then go direct to the market and login

There is something wrong with this image and I cant use it. First it needs to be 1280x600 and I need it in PNG format as this JPG you uploaded wont work through my converter for some reason.

Hi, thanks for picking this up. I didn't install any apps so not sure what to do. I'm not very android savvy but wont factory reset uninstall the custom rom?

Or just reflash Bob's 1.4 ROM and when it boots up, enable wifi then go to the market and login. This will work.

Hi Finless - great ROM BTW. I just wanted to share my sorry-ass tale. Having followed all the instructions and successfully flashed the ROM, I encountered a major snag - no sound! No matter how many reboots I did, I couldn't fix the problem.

I then realised that I had the power cable in the headphone connector!

Yesterday testing some things I flashed back to the stock ROM...
OMG.... I can't believe I even liked this tablet before!
It's amazing to see the change over the last 3 months

Just got to ask you Bob, how do you get to learn to do things like this. I've got an honours degree in computing, albeit 15 years ago, but couldn't even get started with this. Any good books you could recommend?

Ummmm it was a long road. Back in the mid 80's I was a programmer with many languages under my belt. But I stopped like in 1989 or something like that. Anyway I knew nothing about Android OS, ROMS, nor had I touched Linux EVER! I did know early Unix of course.

Bottom line I got my Arnova 10 G2 tablet later November. Having Jailbroken my iPod before I wanted to know how to jailbreak the tablet. Started from scratch and first thing I learned is its not called jailbreaking but rooting. So started searching the web and found xda, and all kinds of other places. Tried some of the rooting tools and none of them worked on this tablet. Then after a few days of studying I realized no one had fully rooted many of the new RK29 tablets out there. So I studied and studied 1000's of posts about rooting. GOD it was hard as many posts in XDA had mostly junk with people begging to do this or that etc. I stumbled on a post by Wendal that talked about rooting. The first root system was still cramfs. So I studied what that was, what yaffs was, ext3, etc etc. And basically just learned it. Then I went at the Arnova to get it ext3 and seriously after 2 weeks of trying and ALMOST giving up, I got it... That damn parameter file!!!

So again bottom line. I learned it all on the web starting late November!

No I am learning more linux, etc. People ask me to make kernel's and stuff and HA! At this point I couldn’t compile a kernel if I tried. But I have found sites that talk about it so I am sure when the time comes I will do it. Same for making APK apps. I kinda want to get into that too.

Anyway so there is my story and I am sticking to it

i have some questions about an app for the 10 g2,
if this is not the right place for this i'm sorry

does anybody know if chainfire 3d would be worth installing on this tablet as from what i understand it tweaks the ability of the device it's installed on to play more graphic intense apps.

also i read that it can cause problems on some devices, so i was also wondering if any body has had some experience using the app on the 10 g2, and could recommend whether to avoid this app or if it's safe to install

Chainfire does not work on RK29 Arnova tablets period. If you install it, it will brick your tablet. They need to update it to support RK29 and our GPUs.

OK to post here but you should have started a new post about this subject so people can find it on searches.
