Hey guys, Id just like to say how grateful I am that I came across this forum...seems like it may help alot...
Anyway.
Like alot of people I went to update my tronsmart prometheus to 4.2. The current latest firmware thats out. And like alot of other people...mine froze up. I let it sit for 2 hours and nothing happened. Im thinking soft brick? As of right now....
I can power on the device.
Holding "reset" DOES make my blue light flash 3 times and then when it turns solid I release.
However, It displays on my TV the initial "A-9 Core" green screen, then immediately followed by the "rainbow" androids standing around. And it will go no further than that.
Ive tried different updates in an attempt to get something to update or something. No luck. It seems like a few other people are worse off than I am since theirs dont even get that far. Ive even tried formatting my sd card and then putting the files back on. Still no luck. I would attempt that SD card linux trick if I thought it was that bad. I dont know anything about linux though...anyway guys, thanks for your time. I hope someone can help.Comment

Have you tried reformatting it FAT32 in windows? It must be FAT32 format. Do not format it in Android! If the SD is corrupted in any way, it wont work.

Wow! thanks for the quick reply! Yes sir, I just reformatted it in FAT 32 format. I did have Quick format checked. Maybe I should try without it. And I was using windows. One thing I might note is I am using a mini sd card like you might put in your phone. going into one of those sd card adapters. Do you think that would make a difference? I have a ton of sd cards, just none that size right now.Comment

Well I just reformatted again in windows as FAT32, I unchecked quick format. Put a new fresh download of all 5 files from the 1-22-13 update and still no luck. I noticed you or someone else mentioned having issues getting an sd card to read, any other pointers? Ive tried another micro sd before but I cant remember if it had been reformatted. I do not think the micro in an adapter is the issue "generally". However I did have a bad adapter made by PNY once. I could not write to the SDcard using it. Tried another adapter and it worked. So I guess you cant rule that out as a problem.
Only other thing is you sure the unziped files are OK? I know you said you tried other updates? Did you try going back to the 4.1.1 up-date which always worked for me?

I dont think my adapter is the issue since i can use it just fine on my computer. Actually i can use it fine on both my laptop and desktop. So i dont think theres an issue there. I tried to get the very first update they put out but its no longer avaliable, id give it a shot if youve got a copy. I dont recall seeing any md5s on their site but ill admit i never look for them. As soon as it hits those rainbow androids, should it be going into recovery or just going straight to the android update picture? How long would you say it takes? Ill look and see if i can find that 4.1.1 somewhere. Any chance this could be done via usb instead? Ive already tried... thanks for your help again.Originally posted by Finless View PostComment

So you should not see rainbow android guys! That means it is booting.
What you should see is the LED blink 3 times. The screen will be black for a LONG time (severla minutes). Then a screen will come up with 1 green Android man and a blue wire frame orb spinning in his chest. That means it is doing the update and is in recovery.
If you see the rainbow android men it means it is booting! Those android men are the bootanimation. So it did not go into recovery mode and try to install the update. AGain this leads me to believe it is NOT seeing the SDcard at all and just tries to boot.
I have the last two 4.1.1 updates The last one on the geekbuying web site works for me every time. Try that one.

FYI for grins, try cleaning the gold contacts on your SDcard adapter with some alcohol. Then rub a TINY amount of vasiline on the contacts. Vasiline is a great connector lube (google it if you dont believe me
). Again a very little bit like a super thin film.

Ok, So If I see the android rainbow guys Ive gone too far haha. Well I do notice the screen is blank for a bit....not long enough though...Its dark for like 5-10 secs. But its the same update android blue orb you see on other updates...Ill look for that. Ok just for sh**s and giggles Ill clean those gold connectors with some alcohol and if I cant find any vaseline I think Ive got some dielectric grease from car stuff Ill put that on there. Your not going to believe this....So I cleaned my gold terminals on the micro sd, as well as the adapter. couldnt find any vaseline or dielectric grease anywhere which is odd because i just did a set of spark plugs the other day on my wifes car...I put the sd card in the slot and (pardon my french) Ill be damned. but it started updating. I cant believe it was as simple as that. Seems like its updating fine though. Bud I really appreciate your help. Would you recommend staying away from 4.2 updates for now since so many seem to be having issues? If your building a rom for this Ill be more than happy to help test with things if you need help. I tend to try and think outside the box with stuff and it also helps to know well the boot process of Android. I knew it was not seeing the SDcard when you explained to me what was happening to you. I just figured "what the hell" try cleaning the contacts! Remember this crap is built in China and I have delt with bad/dirty contacts before on USB connectors for other TV sticks. If you have ever seen a China manufacturing shop... trust me it is NOT a clean room operation

Oh and yes I do plan to do a ROM for this on 4.2.2
Proper root with Superuser, Gameloft patchs to make them work, etc...
Maybe about 1 week. I am a Rockchip nut and I have done AML ROMs before but it takes me longer.
So hell yes... if you want to test I will count you in.
So far 4.2.2 seems good for me just different. I will try and make it better.
