Bricked Prometheus - and proven unbrick method

Oh and yes I do plan to do a ROM for this on 4.2.2
Proper root with Superuser, Gameloft patchs to make them work, etc...

Maybe about 1 week. I am a Rockchip nut and I have done AML ROMs before but it takes me longer.
So hell yes... if you want to test I will count you in.

So far 4.2.2 seems good for me just different. I will try and make it better.

Haha actually I watched a video on youtube a while back of them assembling something...I dont recall it being too clean haha. I was starting to think maybe I needed to take everything apart and check the solder points haha. Im glad it didnt come to that. But Im all about helping to test and what not. Ive never developed any roms and I have no idea how to go about it, though Ive looked into it. But Im all for helping build a good working rom for this thing! Well I dont want to steal this post and keep it running on for no reason ha, if you start the rom building process, let me know bud!

Well maybe a fix will come soon, keep your head up, it is agrivating to spend $100 on something and have it not working

1 i can make a SDcard and get the tornsmart to blink 3 times.
2 then I turned it off.
3 Then formatted the SDcard with windows and copied all the files from the zip to it.

put the SDcard back in the tronsmart............ nothing nada

then i repeat the first three steps

put the SDcard back in the tronsmart and held the reset pin and powered on............ aganin nothing happens
i clean the contact area of the card.
i waited for 5, 10, 15 minutes.

Bert, the 4.2.2 update sometimes does that to me too. I get the 3 blinks but it stays a black screen. I wait 5 minutes and if I do not see anything I just power off and back on again and for some reason it will then start the update.

The 4.1.1 update never did this. Have you tried the last 4.1.1 update instead?

i think it's hard bricked

luckily for me i also have a minix neo x5.
i will keep the tronsmart, until someone knows how to (hard) unbrick it

Have you tried a different firmware? I had luck with i believe a mid jan or feb release of the firmware. Just a thought. Itll give you something else to try maybe. I think my sd card slot has a real hard time reading stuff. Sorry to hear youre having such a bad time with it.

If the blue LED blinks 3 times then you are no hard bricked.
I have a feeling you might have the same problem with the SDcard slot not working.

Yeah thats almost the same issue i was having. Im still having issues with my sd card slot. Im stuck on bone stock first update from tronsmart. I cant complain because it is at least working haha, but it sucks, its laggy and slow, i cant get it to update, so what i plan on doing today is taking it apart and cleaning it out. Ill try some alcohol and i got a can of spray air stuff too. Ill see if it helps.

still cant update.im definately having sd issues. while my prometheus is on, the sd image at the bottom right stays on and says preparing external sd, checking for errors and just stays like that. ill try a few things i suppose

Well i think im back to square 1....i was attempting to update. I got the sd card to read finally by holding it in instead of letting it click back into the locked in position. Thats the only way i can get it to read. It updated but then didnt flash the gapps over. So i tried to reflash and now its not displaying anything on my tv. I can get it to blink and all the lights come on. But its not displaying at all. My tv just says no signal. Ive switched hdmi cables with other devices that i know have working hdmi cords...still no good. This thing sure is agrivating haha. Maybe a dfferent update...

Im back up and running, Bert this may help you out. I believe we were at the same state.

Condition-------
Prometheus will blink 3 times when reset is held. No display on TV at all. I could also power on normally and nothing would display still. All lights come on though. I tried other HDMI cords with no luck.

Notes------
Before getting into that position I would notice how touchy the sd card slot responded. I would have the prometheus running and I would go into storage and keep an eye on the "mount" button, as well as the bottom right hand corner where the sd status is displayed. It seemed like I could normally insert the sd card. Push it all the way in and then release it, it then locks its self in place. SOMETIMES it would read.
I began to notice if I fully removed the card and then pushed it all the way in...If I held it all the way in, it would accept and read the card and show my storage on it. If i released it to let it lock in place and tried to look into the card using astro(or any file man.) it would time out and not read, then id get force close.

Possible solution-----
This is what I did to get back to a working state. (I used a 4.2.2 update, but it may be easier to use a 4.1, because I did have to power off and power back on. With limited hands a 4.1 may be easier)
Anyway. Before starting the process. I quick reformatted my sd card to fat32 again using my windows pc. Then I put my update files on the sd card. Clicked "eject" and safely removed the card. I went to my prometheus.
I got my needle ready to stick in the reset hole. I pressed down and held it.
Next I took my sd card and held it in the slot ALL THE WAY, I did NOT release it allowing it to lock its self into place.
At this point I made sure my reset button way held also and then I turned the power on the my prometheus with the switch.
I kept holding the sd card in fully and released the reset button after the 3rd blink.
The screen stayed blank for a bit, id say 2 or 3 mins.
(At this point I powered it off and powered it back on immediately because I was installing the 4.2 update).
A few mins seconds went by and my screen flashed a yelleow color for a few seconds. And eventually the update android-orb guy shows up and the update bar begins moving across the screen.
By this time my sd card-holding finger is beginning to ache pretty damn bad.
Eventually Im happilly welcomed by the "Thanks for buying a Media Box!" screen.
I then went and smoked a victory cigarette.

Conclusion----
I feel like the sd card slot does not make real good contact. even when its in there.

If you try this, it might help to have a second person there to help, My wife is at work but I was able to do it alone.

ALSO...You might not get it to work the first time. If it doesnt work the first time, give it a shot a few more times. The sd card contact points have to be lined up PERFECTLY.

If you have it held all the way in and it doesnt work that time. Next time, try sliding it back very slightly.

Bert, this may help you. I hope it will if you give it a shot. Its worth a try. Its not like itll get much worse.
