    My first APK Mod. Transparent Status Bar

    UPDATE Feb 28 2012!
    There was in issue in my previous kits that status bar notifications where skewed way over to the right. This is fixed. However this V3 kit only contains the 100% transparent status bar. I will work later on 30% and 50%.
    I also updated the readme as some file explorers when a file is copied from SD Card does not set the file permissions correct (execute and write) and some users were still getting a blank status bar! So read my instructions at step 11 to fix that (Daman )


    I have updated the download link to the new kit. The file name is now V3.

    My new kit now includes not only 50% and 30% but 0% for a totally clear status bar! Only the icons show up!

    Does the status bar kinda tick you off?
    Got a book reader app or another app that the status bar covers up?
    Well I know I hate the thing. I will continue work on an APP to actually make it hide and return
    but in the mean time I moded the SystemUI to make the statrus bar see through!!!!

    I posted this int he Arnova forum but this might work on other tablets too!
    Try it, you can always fix yourself without flashing if you follow my instructions in the README.



    In this kit I provide full install instruction so read the README.txt!!!
    Also in the kit are two version. One is 50% transparent and the other is 30%.
    I prefer the 30% myself but you get a choice!

    Anyway I hope you enjoy my first mod! Here is the download.

    OK I updated my status bar kit with one extra choice! 0%. This means the status bar is gone except for the icons!

    I now personally like this WAY better

    The new file name has V2 at the end so you know you have the correct one!

        Harold, the kitchen will work ONLY if you learn to take apart the ROM and de-odex the system APKs!!!

        Again... KEEP screwing around in Windows an you will not get anywhere!

        YOU HAVE to do things in linux!!!!

        When I started doing this Nov. 2011, I too wanted to be able to do everything in Windows... Alas... My ROM's exists because I learned that, NO WAY.... I HAD to do certain things in linux period!

        I have a feeling you like tinkering?
        Well don't waste too much time chasing dead ends.... Almost NONE of the tools out there work with RK29 ROM architecture! So keep screwing with those if you wish but bottom line... most DO NOT WORK!
        UOT will NOT work! Rom tool box gives so help but 80% of it WILL NOT WORK!

        Ask what you want to do, and I will do my best to help. And actually after spending probably 12 hrs learning, I found a way for UOT to work in a very limited fashion! If thats what you want

            Thanks for the heads up, Bob. It's not just for the tablet that I want to learn this stuff, and it is painfully obvious to me that a Rockchip is very different than the processors in phones like the Rezound.

            BTW, I found the 30% mod put the notification messages in the wrong spot (over to the right) and produced double icons on the left side. Incidentally, I tried that launcher mentioned above too and found that: (1) it takes a row away from the home screen for the dock; and (2) I couldn't get it to rotate. Maybe I missed a setting somewhere.

              I apologize in advanced for this set of daft questions but would be possible to have the status bar at the bottom and/or battery % and different spacing of system button icons?? Just ideas I wish I was smart enough to implement but am clearly not.

                Odd it works perfect for me on stock launcher or Go Launcher. I cant talk about others.
                DId you mod or install something to support the philly newspaper? The only thing that would cause systemUI to not work is
                1) You left the SystemUI.odex file there and did not rename it or delete it
                2) Something changed your /system/framework/frmaework-res.apk

                Finally notes to others. I found some issues with root explorer.
                For some reason intermittently it will say it copied over SystemUI.apk to /system/app but in fact it did not do it fully. A couple of times when I lost the status bar, I went in and looked at SystemUI.apk and it was either 0 bytes is size or was not the correct size (smaller).
                So if you install this and loose your status bar, check that SystemUI was actually copied over correctly and try it again.

                  FYI, if anyone is shy about copying files and what not or has problem making this mod, let me know and I will make you a new system.img with the transparent (fully clear) status bar.
                  You can flash the system.img and it wont erase your apps but in may mess with rooted apps that put stuff in /system.

                    OK some user reports of notification message off to the right, was correct... the Notification messages are way over to one side. Not a big deal but I have fixed that.

                    I will be releasing a new kit with 100% clear status bar soon with notification messages fixed.

                            I have a few wallpapers that get lighter near the top of the screen. 100% would make the icons invisible. If it's not a pain, would prefer a 30%. Don't care about 50%. TIA.

                              That is a fair point, 0% could pose a problem for light wallpaper
