    Tronsmart T428 status so far

OK just started playing with this device now.

It is very semi-rooted but I was able to dump all blocks with ADB. So I have the ROM that came on the stick. I will compare it with the downloaded ROM from geekbuying and see if they are the same.

This ROM is a little more polished than the MK908. Also based on info I see so far, I am betting this ROM comes from a different software house than the MK908. So clearly Tronsmart has spent more time on this ROM than the MK908.

    The good so far:

Quick Antutu run gives me 15,500 give or take.
Interesting however that GPU being a 400MP is not faster than the MK908.
I get 44 FPS 2D and 12 FPS with 3D. Same number roughly I get with the MK908.
So might be some improvements to come there.

This ROM is 4.2.2 and has what the MK908 is missing
    1) Hide button on status bar
    2) Power button on status bar
    3) Volume on status bar but I don't consider that a feature.

    The bad so far:
    1) No accessibility options or settings which is odd... Thus no pinch to zoom mouse function
Did they remove accessibility settings in 4.2.2? I forget now from other 4.2.2 ROMs?

    2) Fonts are a little small in some dialogs. This can be easily fixed though.

    3) The unit does seem to get warmer than the MK908. Not sure it's an issue though. I will run a bunch of back to back 3D tests and see what it gets up to.

    4) Nothing else so far that I can see. I will be checking for xpad.ko and other goods soon.

Time to analyze ROM dumps now

Jejejeje, thanks a lot to keep us informed, today I am going to beat my record of kernel modifications and compiling times, so while the pc is compiling I am following all your advances, I have the F5 key without paint

OK forget the ROM comparison. The download for the stock t428 ROM on Geekbuying's web site does not work. Cant find one at Tronsmart web site either.

So the compare will have to happen wen I can get the latest stock ROM.

Worse comes to worse I will just make a flashable ROM from the dump

I read that the android 4.1 can't utilize more than 2 cores , if this info is correct it explains why the MK908 Score are similar to the mk808 (10000) while the tronsmart T428 which utilizes android 4.2 could score 15000

But then again in the case of the MK908 we should have seen at least some performance gain due To the increase in Mali400 clock from 250 of the MK808 to 533 of the MK908 but this wasn't the case.

Even the 15000 score is low compared the the published scores of nearly 18000.

Too bad i was about to purchase one of these quad cores , i will have to wait to see if the Performance Can be enhanced.

Maybe the 18000 score was a generic score that cpu can get at 1.8 ghz and not the stick itself. More like an advertising type deal than the actual tv stick scores. They did have those numbers out before they got the latest revision stick if you remember.

Both ROMs allow a MAX clock speed of 1.6.
So once again even though it is advertised as 1.8, they are not letting you clock that high.

Oh also the T428 only has 500 megs of APP space
So that needs to be fixed

Thats what I ment. As in that chips best score, but on this particular stick it doesnt perform that high.

Can you install CPUSpy and check if all CPU-steps/frequencies are used?

I would be annoyed if it's only 1ghz and up and that it doesn't downstep to 300-500mhz during idle.

Why does downstepping matter? It doesnt run on battery. Id be fine with it running at 1.6 all the time.

It goes from 312 to 1.6 and supports all the different governor methods. By default it is on interactive.

FYI, I just made a successful flashable ROM from my dump.
I rooted it, debloated a little, and gave it 1GB APP space....

                      Just a start.

Downstepping is important. Lower wattage during idle and less unnecessary heat.

Thank you for that. I'm likely going to pick this stick up then.

Compared to the media pc I am currently running, full power from that stick is still a big improvement (as far as power consumption goes anyway).
