Tronsmart T428 Stock ROM - disccusions on the best ROM

Since it appears there is no stock ROM download anywhere, I decided to put a flashable stock ROM kit together using the dump I took from my T428.

This is totally stock. No changes at all.

Yesterday I received the tronsmart T428. I immediately appreciated the power of the new hardware quad core, but the stock rom 4.2.2 seems the old rom 4.2.2 of mk808. (identical with some minor modifications)

Luckily, I had downloaded the real stock rom 4.1.1 from geekbuying.com some time ago:

I managed to install the 4.1.1 rom on tronsmart T428 and I knew immediately that this is the original ROM. (rom made by Rockchip)

With the 4.1.1 rom the T428 flies, is the first and only real Android rom never seen in any android hdmi stick.

I also rooted and installed burybox in system.img Soon I will share for all those who want Android without bloatware.

Please bob, try this 4.1.1 firmware on your tronsmart t428 and look how well work the t428 with this firmware. this is the stock rockchip firmware. i added only su , Supersu and busybox in system.img

Now my t428 is wonderful, I want your honest opinion.

I did not have any time the last 3 days to work on stuff but I left off in a very close completion of a first ROM for the T428. I may have to do it to the 4.1.1

Any chance I can get the unrooted version you downloaded from Geekbuying please?

Also watch out for gameloft! Build.prop allows you do download and install them But watch what happens when you try to run them.... Some will crash to the desktop.

Please try this for me. Install wonder zoo. Run it and let it download extra data. Then you will get the start up intro cartoon thing. You can skip that. But after that when it goes to really run the game, it will crash to the desktop every time. It is failing the license check. I have yet to find any stock rockchip ROM that it will work on without patching with the Gameloft patch. I bet the same will be with this ROM. Please try it if you can. If not I will test Friday when I have some time.

In this 4.1.1 i installed Modern Combact 4 that crash in every rom without the gameloft fix also in the stock 4.2.2 of t428

On the 4.1.1 firmware it work.

The stock 4.2.2 of t428 is not for t428 i think, rockchip made only 4.1.1 roms for android hdmi stick.

On 4.2.2 rom, the device crash, the wifi drop and other negative situation.

tested also wonder zoo, and it work very well on 4.1.1 firmware

the rom 4.1.1 is very very fast and stable. also the wifi is wonderful


to hide the status bar i use the free app fullscreen in the google play (if this is necessary for someone)

i installed also xbmc 13 beta and 720p video in streaming from internet work well with the internal player. the 1080p not good with internal xbmc player for now.

the 1080p videos work well with the MX Player that use also hardware decode

OK today I tried the 4.1.1 ROM. You are correct, Gameloft works which is amazing since I have yet to find a stock ROM it works properly on!

I do see it is faster but it is also missing a lot of goodies... My screen blackness (black background) is also too washed out. So you are right, this is some kind of stock TV player Rockchip ROM with a kernel that supports the T428 WIfi and BT chipset.

Now to play and see if I can add the goodies

I will probably release a Finless 4.2.2 and a 4.1.1 for those that want it.

Interesting. I flashed a RK3066 system.img with the 4.1.1 kernel etc and it boots but graphics is all screwed up. I am sure it is due to not having the correct GPU drivers in system... So to make a 4.1.1 with cool features like hide status bar etc, it is going to take a little more work. But I for sure will see if I can do it

This 4.1.1 ROM is FAST! Antutu for me is 19K!!!!!

However it has lots of issues. I think you are right, this is a generic ROM for tablets, etc. It allows screen rotation. If you run Antutu the screen will rotate. So the 19K is based on portrait screen testing. But I think it is still very fast. The good news is I know I can fix the forced screen rotation! But again, a Finless 4.1.1 ROM will take some time as I have much to do to this basic ROM. But right now, this seems like a better ROM to work with than the current 4.2.2 ROM. Since I have almost finished with my 4.2.2. Finless 1.4 ROM I will be releasing that first. Then I will work on a 4.1.1 super fast ROM

Folks, remember 4.2.2 is pretty new... Thus it will have lots of releases for improving performance. I am 100% sure 4.2.2 will get there! But right now I have to agree... 4.1.1 on any TV stick I have is just faster than 4.2.2 at this time. So please... realize why I will do a 4.1.1. ROM. Performance at our resolutions for TV is important vs a tablet with lower resolutions.

I ask you one last thing, can you confirm that the 4.2.2 firmware is not a new firmware of Rockchip but a port from an old rk3066 device like the 4.2.2 of mk808 ?

In all new rk3188 tablets and also on stock firmware of mk908, the icon in the Android settings are differents. For example the old SCREEN icon in the new firmware is called HDMI and have different icon image. (this for all rockchip new firmware, also for tablets)

I hope that for custom roms, you can start from a real new rockchip stock rom and not from an old rk3066 rom. otherwise we will bring with us all the problems already present in the old rk3066 roms.

I do not think it is a port from a 3066. The reason I say that is I have in fact flashed 3066 ROMs but using 3188 kernel to my new 3188 sticks. THEY ARE SLOW AS HELL!

So for sure the 4.2.2 is modified to support quad core. What exactly that means is beyond me at this time but I am sure it's not just a port but is recompiled to support quad cores.

Another thing. I can now mod just about any kernel to 1080 for 3066. But 3188 is totally different. I have yet to figure out how to patch a 3188 kernel to 1080P. It is in fact very different. When I decompile a 3188 kernel, how the structures are loaded is completely different!
