Oh thank you for that most helpful post. FYI there are others having this issue as well on other Rockchip devices including rk3288. I'm going to give this firmware a try.

The above firmware update has fixed all my issues including Netflix, Kodi, and audio.

I flashed it, using a xubuntu live iso (first time using actual linux LOL), but it worked perfectly using instructions above. So far ROM is running smooth, navigational sound is a little off still so i just muted that. I only use Kodi and that works very smooth, including HEVC decoding.

If only there was someone with just enough skill to pre-root this standard firmware... That would make it a perfectly fine mediaplayer for now. I need root to add a custom keylayout in system folder.

For lack of a better way i just tried towelroot and Kingroot, but both failed.

as far as i know, both need a working connection to a windows PC and that was just the thing that didnt work with me. (Tried windows 7 and 10)

I succeeded to root device with iroot but couldn't update SuperSu binary .
