New Beta Lollipop Firmware from Rikomagic - September 2015

RKM needs to realize that most people using a stick configuration just want a really awesome stick for playing average quality video, not 4k and H.265 etc as much. Overclocking kernel to achieve advertised results is not going to sell more. As long as I can regularly play 720p well and 1080p on occasion, no need to run 1.8 mhz flat out. Keeping it at 504 to 1608 hz is fine with me.
I use it with kodi launcher and a root shutdown screensaver built for the fire tv stick, so when I turn on the tv it is booting up at the same time. There is no micro-stutter. Currently it's working well enough, but when the final version is out, I'll probably use it, and hopefully a developer can put that to use for a custom rom.Currently Inactive on Freaktab.com
I use: MK903V | MELE F10 Deluxe | Roku 3600R
RIP: MK808b | MK809III | PIPO M9 Pro

Indeed. When I set out to concoct V-Fly, those were pretty much my goals - to reproduce the core functions (shutdown/reboot) on a stable, fluent rom that didn't overheat, handled 1080p Kodi and YouTube well and had sufficient app space. I will try swapping in RKM's newer kernel but not if that makes things too warm..

A bit off topic, but one of the weaknesses of the RK3188 and now I believe shared by the RK3288 is that traditional ways of changing the dpi (build.prop editing) usually result in the SystemUI continually crashing. People use as a work around the xposed module appsettings to change the dpi on a per-app basis. Did you modify the dpi at all during your experimenting with your custom rom? I'm wondering if a custom rom make from the beginning with a lower dpi (my ideal is probably 240) would not crash loop.

As I recall, I set the dpi at 240 in build.prop with no noticeable adverse effects. That worked best with the launcher I've included in the rom.
When restoring a rom in TWRP, it's advisable to let things sit for several minutes after the first boot. It's a large transplant, after all, and the device has to accept its new organs..Then reboot and start in earnest.
Also if you're viewing on a PC monitor and not a TV with adjustable refresh rates, turn that feature off in Kodi/Settings/Video/Playback

NY_HAMMER, congrats on the new V5. Trying to be objective, I think you'll be pretty happy with the latest RKM rom for the 902ii. You'll find it easier to install than my TWRP backup and while I think the two perform about the same, the RKM has a newer kernel and offers dual band wifi. Mine needs to be updated to that new kernel.
The RKM rom runs somewhat warmer on the V5 but not too much so. You may want to turn up the brightness control in Kodi a notch because they used a different color space.
I posted this same link earlier. http://chinagadgetsreviews.com/downl...-tv-box-2.html

1. If I got it correctly the above mentioned firmware even though it is for RKM 902ii should run ok on RKM V5 stick?
2. By any chance any of you use Cisco WebEx meeting apk on their devices? If yes are you getting any sound there?.
That's the only problem I am having running the original KitKat stock ROM. I have no sound in that app.
I posted this question on Rikomagic forums but no reply yet.
"CiscoWebEx apk No sound on V5
The same app works fine on the phone (HTC M8), tablet Nexus and used to work on my old Imito QX2.
What I noticed when trying to change the volume to max it it only shows 2 types of volumes, Media and Notifications vs 3 (Telephony sound I guess) on other devices.

Have you tried Wasser's custom Kodi? I find it works well, and with autoframe rate switching. I don't do much fast-forwarding though.

I've updated V-Fly to version 2. (TWRP Backup)
-4gb app space
-latest RK3288 kernel (more stable, quicker)
-dual band wifi (and wifi ac)
-1080p YouTube-ready
-Play Store
-Shutdown/Reboot/Reboot to recovery via installed app
- cleaner root
Faster than version 1 but still runs relatively cool.
Unzip the download, rename the numbered backup folder inside with a number generated by your own device (from any backup you've made) and then restore via TWRP.

1. Unzip the file you download from me and place the TWRP folder on your external SD card. Put the recovery.img somewhere you can navigate to easily.
2. Start Android Tool. Connect the device to your pc in flash mode
3. Uncheck every partition in Android tool except 'recovery'. Navigate to where you put recovery.img and flash just that file. TWRP is installed.
To use my backup, recall that TWRP on your device wants a backup number FROM YOUR OWN DEVICE. So make any old backup of your current installation. Write down the number TWRP gives it. Then rename the folder with a longish number inside the BACKUP folder you downloaded from me with that same number. Finally, use the "RESTORE" function to flash that backup, and you're done.
