Is hardware accelerated video decoding available in Ubuntu also? If so, Kodi on Ubuntu would be great!

No hardware video acceleration in Ubuntu, just a black screen in MPlayer, videos not even playable.
No GPU 2D/3D acceleration in Ubuntu, so menus & the whole Ubuntu OS is slow. This wasn't the case on RK3288 as there was Mali GPU drivers from ARM available but Imagination Technologies really have to do something about it or no one is going to use their GPU chips anymore.

Hopefully MAC_L1 can bring hardware accelerated video to RK3368 like he did for RK3288.

Thanks for the info mo123. That is really disappointing. I really can't understand why the manufacturers refuse to provide proper linux drivers for their chips.

just looked at the github source links that mo123 sent me for these RK3368 devices. libhybris for VPU should be quite easy: code is exactly the same as fireflys rk3288 and fireprimes rk312x lollipop versions. on both of these i have ported machybris so i dont expect any problem here, probably quite easy. GPU is probably also quite doable, however not mali - luckily android is very strict on android EGL/GLES API/ABI.
mackodi is also quite standard xbmc building so also quite easy to build a version for these devices.
so all in all dont expect too much problems here.

would be happy to put some time into this, but:
the only thing i need is a device to build and test on...

will mail these guys if they can send me one...
or maybe someone else can send me one?

            cheers -- mac_l1

We would love to work with you together to make this better. We still working with Rockchip for the GPU/VPU problem. Check your PM

That is the same reaction I have to many of these devices.
I assume you have seen this and have been to the GeekBox.tv forum. If not have a look.

I don't own one of these yet, but they look like a lot of fun.
Looking forward to your impressions of the GeekBox.
                            Cheers!

Hi, Did it install the software for these devices from different manufacturers (Ugoos vs..vs.. )?

Just received one and had chance for a very quick and dirty play.

Like others have said, it's amazingly small but looks well designed.

The dual WiFi antennas do make a great difference and even on the 2.4Ghz spectrum, performance is impressive.

Fast boot time and very snappy UI and general operation show that decent a spec of components have been used and it's a joy to see such snappiness and speed.

Played a few videos and all had punchy colour reproduction with good depth and those that I have played have been smooth.

Initial impressions leave a sense of great anticipation about how good it can be and looking forward to testing more.

The only distinct downside that I have found so far is that when copying files from a USB 3 stick to an external 64Gb Sandisk SD card was very slow, not getting above 3Mb/s speeds.

Certainly more impressive so far than the Tronsmart R68 from initial impressions.
R-TV BOX S10, Beebox N3150, Chuwi Hibox, Nvidia Shield, A95X Max
