In case anyone missed it, abdul_pt has made us an awesome TWRP recovery for Mini M8S. Latest TWRP 3.0.2 no less! Yay!!!

You can download it from: http://www.freak-tab.de/abdul_pt/aml/TWRP3_Mini_M8S.img. Follow his instructions on: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...mlogic-devices. Don't forget to buy him beer if you feel he's made your life a little easier.

You can either run TWRP from external SD card only, or flash it to replace the factory recovery. I can breath a little easier now that I have a nandroid backup.

reBuild original rom based on 104L03 - fix issue slowely wifi ))) checked!

      posted theme on 4pda

      and link for firmware

      Corrections:
      - Editing of the rights of record for application on microSD
      - The unit of driver WiFi from boxing MK06
      - Editing of tables Device Tree Blob

Results : speed wifi grew, time ping decreased to normal 2-5ms

Use flashing by utility USB Burning Tool
Further it is possible to be updated on "air", fixes do not "fly."

I'll be darn! It's true! I got 33 Mbps D/L, same with LAN (my ISP limit). Same speed for both WiFi and LAN also after ota update to 105L03. Thaank you @vadiator!

I'd make a nandroid backup first though as the USB burning tool is a little touchy for me. It took me several tries because I was getting USB error while transferring.

Thank you for the fix @vadiator!
Btw, what happens if you FOTA update to 105L03, will the fix be kept or lost?

No, you will not loose the fix when updating to 105L03.

Alright well I'm kind of a noob to some of this so can you first show me how to actually get into recovery outside of using another program because I've noticed there are no buttons on this device other than what looks like a small opening on the bottom that might be one. Second I want to install this WiFi fix mainly but I want to make sure I have a proper backup in case something goes wrong. Btw I already have the TWRP3 recovery image downloaded onto my microsd card placed inside the MiniM8S and I have the Wifi fix image downloaded on my computer. Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I don't have this box. If you have a terminal emulator app, enter reboot recovery. That should get you to the stock recovery. There are also other ways as well.
                      Good luck.

The reset button is under the box, small pinhole.

Hold the button for several seconds after inserting the power plug. Alternatively to using the reset button, I use @Riscy Dude's (thanks!) clever reboot to recovery trick: Create a blank text file and rename it TWRP3_Mini_M8S.zip in the root directory of a microSD. I use this name because it tells me which recovery.img is currently in use. Using the built-in Update app, in Local, select the TWRP3_Mini_M8S.zip file and run Update. There's a minor caveat: TWRP complains of something about not able to install TWRP3_Mini_M8S.zip.

To use TWRP, you'll need a mouse or air mouse preferably with keyboard. Go to Backup and select external SD for backup file destination. Check Boot, System and Data. I edited the date&time of the backup filename since TWRP doesn't set the date&time automatically. It takes a while to calculate the md5 checksums, so be patient.

To flash a complete rom image.img such as the wifi fix, you'll need to use Amlogic Burning Tool, http://androidpcreview.com/how-to-us...firmware/3749/. It took me a few tries getting it to see the device and getting USB transfer errors. It seems to work better if I plug in the USB while holding the reset with a toothpick, and not using the power plug.

I just flashed twrp recovery and I was wondering about the advantages to do so ?
I feel that maybe the backup tool is better.
You can flash images better (maybe ?) but for the moment we do not have custom images for our box, and it might be we will never have since these cheap boxes pop-up fast and disapear as fast as they pop-up.

I'd love to have a custom kernel with better usb audio support, but I don't know how to do it myself, so same as firmware, might never happen.

Then, what is so interresting that we absolutely have to install twrp ?

I tried flashing the WiFi fixed image on my box with the usb burning tool, but in the middle of it the burning tool threw an error and now my Mini M8s is bricked. I used USB burning tool 2.0.6.2 with usb cable connected to the back port, WorldCup driver installed ok and box was recognised. I selected only Normal erase checkbox. No Google boot logo, nothing except blue power led and no HDMI signal. Dammit!

Now it connects to PC too, but with some DDR error at 1% when trying to reflash. I also tried the sd card boot method but with no success (maybe I dont know exactly what files to copy to sd card together with u-boot.bin from the ota package).
                              Please help!
