Yes, you can flash only a kernel without flash all the rom.

Is there any alternate way to flash? using the micro sd?

15th of july i bought an 802iv. From the day one I upgraded to the official newest version(sn/20130602710). The above procedure was ok.
Now I tried to do the same but the procedure with the reset button and the OTG doesn't work. There isn't any response from the pc and believe me I tried it to several pcs.

I finally opened it to ensure that I was pressing right the switch but the result is just same NOTHING Happens on PC. I tried several cables. I tried to shortcircuit the switch (i am not sure if I did it right) but nothing.

My MK802IV stills working with the latest rom in it.

What could I do??? Do I have a hardware failure?

Try the following:

Load from PlayStore "Terminal Emulator"

Open it and Type the follow:

su
reboot bootloader


Than you should can Upgrade your Firmware.
By the way may you want to use my Custom Rom for it

Unfortunately It doesn't work!!!

I tried it after the su reboot bootloader the ricomagic automatically went black like shutdown. I tried the rest of the procedure but NOTHING. There is no connectivity with pc ... just nothing like you don't connect anything.

Is there any diagnostic tool to check my 802Iv???


I am also an onwer of 802iiis which works perfeclty 6 months now. I have upadated itseveral times.

The ricomagic 802iv works just fine on TV.

Let me ask how do you do it ?
Did you Power Up your Stick with the USB OTG Cable coming from a PC or with the Power Supply ?
When you do it with the Power Supply typing in the commands I gave you disconnect it and go to the PC and Reconnect it, your Device Boot´s Up in normal Mode and not in Flash Mode.

I power Up Stick with the Power Supply. And do it with the Power Supply typing in the commands you gave me, disconnect it and go to the PC and try to connect it with pressing the switch connects micro usb cable to OTG to usb of PC.

Should I do something different?

I'm trying to flash my MK809III since about 3 hours now and no success. Where am I failing?

and got my stick into flash mode by pushing reset while booting with OTG (I tried several different micro-USB <=> USB cables) on my laptop (WIN 7 enterprise). Running RKAndroidTool.exe as admin and erasing IDB went all fine. But when I want to flash by pressing "RUN", the following message come up:

"test device failed" and "RUN failed". Please see attached logfile.

Do you have any idea what I can do or what goes wrong? Stick doesn't boot in normal mode anymore;-(

Do I need a special UTG cable?

You don't need a special cable. Try the follow step by step.

First press Erase IDB
Then try it with an different USB Port
If this also not work you can try to have him extra power.
Bring it to flash mode. When you in flash mode connect your power supply for the stick to the DC port of your stick.

done everything, but same result. If I go via a USB Hub, my laptop even doesn't recognize the stick.

I'll try it over the weekend with another laptop.
