ok, I ditched the kernel from 4.2.2 and went with strauzo's latest test 908 kernel (found here):
Linux version 3.0.36+ (strauzo@ubuntu) #37 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 9 11:53:52 PDT 2013
Ran a speedtest, got over 20mbit now. I'm not sure what was up with the 4.2.2. kernel but for me it was performing very poorly over wifi. any streaming over my network was stuttering.
then I installed xbmc 12.1 XAF
Installed MX player
Installed the MX player arm codec V7
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...vfpv3d16&hl=en)
went into mx player, turned on hw+ acceleration and hw acceleration over network.
installed CIFS manager and mapped my SMB shares on my NAS drive.
now xbmc works like a champ. I didn't bother testing any 1080p content but every 720p MKV I tested plays flawlessly, icefilms works perfectly for 720p content as well.
becuase I only really want to use the mx919 for xbmc, i'm a happy camper for now.

Thanks for this post. Did you note any issues with random crashes? I can stream 720P using the full finless 4.2.2 ROM with XBMC XAF via IceFilms but I get random crashes especially when navigating through XBMC menus/streams. Also, does right clicking with the Strauzo build and kernel cause the browser to open? I've noted this on both the stock 4.2.2 build and the Finless 4.2.2 build as well and right clicking is especially important in XBMC if you want to view trailers of movies before actually clicking on the stream.
Thanks,
smithmal

I used Finless 4.2.2 and this kernel on my cx-919:
Linux version 3.0.36+ (strauzo@ubuntu) #37 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 9 11:53:52 PDT 2013
Everything worked ALMOST ok. WIFI and bluetooth worked but when my bluetooth headphones would connect it said no media which means I couldn't listen to music or movies on it.

Finless 4.2.2 With MK908 Strauzo Kernel Linux version 3.0.36+ (strauzo@ubuntu) #37 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 9 11:53:52 PDT 2013
I went ahead and flashed these two. And I must say. It is interesting.
When I booted for the first time I got some error. But I just simply rebooted again and it appeared fine.
Netflix
I then installed Netflix and gave it a try. I opened up a video from netflix and it was all scrambled.
I rebooted again for good measure. And sure enough.
Netflix worked. And I couldn't believe how stable it was. I watched 3 or 4 episodes of The A Team.
Then eventually it did lock up. But no were near as bad as it was. It's a lot more stable. The HD in Netflix kicked in and all appears to be good.
I fast forwarded and rewound just to make sure. No freezes from that.
720 Video Playback.
Is just fine. Very stable. A have watched over 20 movies. Stable.
1080p Video Playback.
Unfortunately the same process skipping occurs. But not as bad as it was. Still very noticeable and annoying.
I used this video here. (h264_1080p_hp_4.1_40mbps_birds.mkv)
As well as other 1080p movies I have. All appear the same.
If I down it from 1080to720 The movies play fine. Just make sure you switch off your 1080 resolution.
XBMC
Stable but for some reason after I installed it. I had to reboot because it would not see my SMB shares.
But after a Reboot it was fine. It acts normal nothing out of the ordinary. I haven't had a chance to try any channels yet. But will post back if I see anything unusual. Video play back in 720 was very good.
WiFI
Appears a lot faster then the Finless 4.2.2 as well as the stock rom.
Bluetooth
Sorry I have no BT devices. Besides my phone. I will test it out and post back.
If I right-click it takes me back a screen. That is default for me. I use a Measy Air Mouse.Last edited by spifey; 27 July 2013, 03:18.

Also since you mentioned smb shares I'm curious what version of xbmc you're using? I'm using xaf and as far as I know mx won't work with smb. To get around this I use CIFS manager to map my shares locally. I'd love to use a Gotham build but I didn't think they were working wl with our chip yet?
SMB shares work also. But required a reboot after I installed XBMC.

At first glance I could not change into 1080p mode it's stuck at 720 resolution. So this may hinder my test results.
Netflix
Worked very well. Almost to well. But it did crash on the first run.
Other than that the best I have seen yet. By far. It would sometimes scramble on first video.
But it clears up after that. HD does indeed kick in. That is when my first crash appeared.
After the first run it was totatly fine. Not one problem with it.
720 Video Playback
A lot of my videos played very well.
However for some reason some 720p videos where choppy. Although watchable. But gets a little old after about 30 minutes of watching.
1080p Video Playback
Not watchable at all. Something is wrong with the 1080p->720p reduction.
I can't test true 1080p until I somehow change the resolution for it.
XBMC
It installed fine. I was able to see my SMB shares. All appeared well.
Right mouse clicking did not work at all. Nether did the Escape key.
It just would not go back. In other apps it worked fine though. Just not XBMC.
WIFI
Worked very well. I got the same results from last time. Very good speed.
Although my videos would re-sync every once in awhile. But I think it was
from the lightning storm I had. It only happened about 4 times.
Bluetooth
Sorry I have no BT devices. Besides my phone. I will test it out and post back.
I'll post back when I change into 1080p resolution. I think there is a fix for it on the forums somewhere.

Finless 1.4 (4.2.2) with MK908 Strauzo Kernel Linux version 3.0.36+
Tried this combination and noted the following when running XBMC (XAF build):
1. Could not stream 720P movies via XBMC without severe stutter
2. Random reboots when running XBMC
3. Dongle get pretty warm (vs. my experience with the finless 1.4 kernel)
Installation question. I already had the Finless 1.4 installed so I just installed the Strauzo kernel. Is this incorrect to do or will this give me problematic results? Should I have reflashed the entire OS and swtiched out the kernel at the same time?
Just wondering as I know others using the kernel/combination have had good results
Thanks,
smithmal
