Sorry for the long wait but here is the link for the DD file I was referring to. http://www.filedropper.com/dd_3
      Windows Users:
      - I used this file/program to create a SD card and then I copied all the files needed for the flash to the SD card. This helped my uART recognize the SD card and gave me a terminal as stated in leestow's post (thanks to members at Ember). The files I used were from Ember (EXTRACTME_EmbER-Amlogic-G02REF_CMX-convert_v2.0.2) since this matched my MX2 box.

      - Next, I followed leestow's post #697 on how to short the pins and getting a terminal to pop-up using putty.

Smilez - I hope this helps if you have plenty of boxes stuck and hopefully works without any issues.

Any questions, I will check daily and reply back.

Hello. I have been given a MX box for free with openelecXBMC installed. As I like tinkering with tech gear I thought I would try and install another image on the box. Anyway the box I have is a V1 box with HD18 2.22

My question is can I flash newer firmare on the box easily or do I have to follow kerkhaos' instructions? Thanks

            Hi,

ask long as your box is genuine HD18 then you should have no problem jumping to any official firmware. The risk you have is jumping from your current firmware to the one you want. This is what creates the bricks because the mtd layout on some firmwares are different to some of the others. During the install some things do not get correctly sent over like boot partition info and firmware data causing the semi brick to occur.

In vectordroid there is a description to how to downgrade flash to a known universal unlocked firmware which will allow most newer firmwares take effect however its always best to check with us before you attempt any upgrades because we may be aware of future issues that may incur from the current firmware.

            Hope this info helps

              VECTORDROID UPDATE FLASH

This is a late 15.2 kodi November release consisting of all the new addons which are currently in circulation plus the old classic ones to make this download another ultimate edition kodi media center.

New section added (KIDS CORNER) and incorporated new addons and newer releases for preexisting addons now made available in this new release

As always enjoy our download and remember to go through the correct process of using the following files.

              * the vectordroid backup.zip file

              http://www.mediafire.com/download/q01n9 ... backup.zip

              * the vectordroid graphics user interface

              http://www.mediafire.com/view/bxkmydvc1 ... ttings.xml

              * the recovery addon

              http://www.mediafire.com/download/l5lgx ... orback.zip

              NB,
Its always a good idea to start with a fresh installation of kodi (upgrading an already configured kodi may result is addon errors and system instabilities)

              1. To clean kodi (or remove and install newer based kodi - v15.1 or v15.2) go to settings, apps and locate kodi. Uninstall completely or clear data and cache to clean currently installed kodi. If you do not wish to install a new version of kodi jump to (3) and begin to restore kodi with the new backup.zip

              2. Installing new kodi means you must either download the current version from the kodi wesbite and install when download completes or run the already downloaded version of kodi you may of saved in either a USB drive or HDD. You will need a file explorer program to navigate, locate kodi installer and then run to install. Open when install finishes

              3. Restoring the backup file is easy. Navigate to system within kodi, then go to addons. Select install from zip file and select the downloaded file plugin.video.vectorback.zip - once installed go to programs - android programs within kodi and choose the vectordroid backup addon. You should get a message asking to set a location for the restore file. Click yes and navigate to where you downloaded the 3 files in the links above. Select ok and then ok again to leave window. There will be an error message but thats fine ignore it and enter the vectordroid addon again. You will be asked to backup or restore (do not click backup this will erase your file). Click on restore and let the addon begin the vectordroid recovery. When finished you will see kodi change skin but you will need to exit completely out of kodi for the next step.

              4. This next step is a bit tricky and is only recomended if you know how to properly use a good file explorer program like ES FILE EXPLORER or similar. Go and havigate back to the 3 files you downloaded from above there will be a file called guisettings.xml. You will need to copy this file and paste in the following directory (take note that some folders are hidden and you will need to enable within the file explorer to view hidden files to gain access):

android - data - org.xbmc.kodi - file - .kodi - userdata (replace guisettings.xml with vectordroids guisettings.xml) click on yes to overwrite

              5. Click back to exit file explorer and go back to start kodi. If correctly done you will get our official interface with all the special features.

Any problems or questions please post in forum and we will help as nest we can

Thanks again everyone and enjoy our newest kodi build

Well. My box already had Openelec 5.0.3 on it. I just updated to 6.0 and it seems fine. One minor problem I have noticed even befor updating is that the volume buttons dont work and the home button? Any ideas

                    Hi,
here is the official tutorial for jumping to openelec when running most standard firmwares

remote control problem is because there is a file somewhere in the file system which controls the basic IO of remote. You can either find a new file which is a match for your specific remote or you can edit the file yourself and remap as needed. I need to check which file it is but you can search on google also for a quicker response to this question.

                    hope this helps

Thanks again mate. Like I said I think who ever my mate bought the box from had already updated openelec to 5.0.3 so Im not sure if that means the box is original or he went through your steps to jump to 5.0.3?

I have already upgraded openelec to 6.0

Here is a pic of my actual remote

The volume buttons are swapped with the menu and home buttons?
