how did you update the firmware, PC or SD card method? I couldn't get the recovery to read the SD card. it was formatted in fat32 and in root of the card.

Have any of you had issues with the PlayStore? There are few, if any, apps in the PlayStore that will even install on my CSA96 RK3399 that I just got today. Even the preinstalled Google apps don't show up as installed...lol.... I open YouTube app and it wanted me to update it and when I hit the update button it loaded in the PlayStore but said "this device is not compatible with this app". So I have reverted to downloading update apps from apkmirror.com.
If I had root, I could mod the build.prop and spoof another device like the Nexus 9.

These two devices CSA96 & R-TV RK3399 are expensive bricks.
Lots of Google Play problems, lots of pass-though problems.
Unfortunately the manufacturers won't solve these problems and they will also not get Nougat firmware.

That is unfortunate. I don't care about about Nougat as I really don't care for it my self but I really need Google apps and Play Store to work. What's the sense in having a media player if I can't install and use Vudu and Xfinity Streaming app. I had to side load many Google apps but can not get Google Plus to install and am having issues with gmail. I get it as far as not getting some Google play services in China but if this device is marketed to seek in the US then Google Play Store and it's apps need to work. I'm guessing that a simple device spoof I'm the build.prop would most likely fix this but we will need to wait for root until we can do that.

Oh my god doom and gloom. I guess the 3399 released by nagrace will be thrown in the trash can too then. Just released so hopefully not a brick.... But too early to tell....

I agree. I think that with an update or two it will get better. I'm not trashing the unit at all but what I am doing is telling it like it is. Without full Google support it's not going to be a success but I'm sure that they will address it. This device has a lot going for it and if they were to fix the Google apps compatibility that would be a big step in the right direction. So I will wait for any updates.

Unless some minds get changed at Rochchip to code to the google api that wont happen soon. Hard headed...
