First thing about overheating- SetCPU reports that interactive or ondemand kernel setting run at high CPU frequencies all the time. Basically, CPU speed never gets under 1.2Ghz (usually is at 1.4 or max at 1.6) so no wonder stick crashes or reboots from time to time. I am not sure why is that as nothing is really running in background requiring CPU to run at this speed. I therefore limited per SetCPU max speed to 1.2Ghz as I don't think I need more power and 720p encoded videos would play fine even on lower speeds except decoding requires to be done by software which is rarely the issue.
Second thing is for those that complain that main USB input does not load or recognizes whatever USB stick you have attached to. The issue here is that whenever you restart MK908 unit (or unit restarts due to overheating itself without you knowing) default setting under "USB" is going to kick in which is "connect to PC" rendering your USB stick useless. So, each time you restart, you are going to have to change that setting for USB stick/drive files to show.

Those kernel sources had some things in them that appear to keep it at that higher rate.. I'm making some right now that should be better on the heat.

      Cooler temperature kernels

Added a link to cooler running kernels in the first post. Hopefully will help out people having heat issues.

I could try turning them on and seeing how it works on 4.1.1.. I know antutu rotates for sure so it'd be an easy thing to test. I'll see what I can do but it won't be until tonight. Got family things going on today.
Well, no rush, you're making quite rapid progress as it is. I gather from some posts that you can diddle ro.sf.fakerotation and ro.sf.hwrotation to control rotation on rockchip but I haven't managed to come up with any specific details yet.

Tried the new 'cool' kernel, I don't know how much cooler it is but I did notice that I can get 5MB/sec on my USB ethernet adapter, that's pretty good!

Which XBMC build do you favor? Alpha6 is tolerable...

I don't do much with xbmc to be honest. So it's not running any cooler?

It is definitely cooler at idle.

                Best ROM so far

Hi hoabycsr, imho this is the best and most stable rom so far. I used the rom from the OP in this thread and the 411kernel100.img kernel.
                • Wireless keyboard works again
                • Bluetooth works
                • Wifi works very good; wireless router is 2 walls away and I still get 24Mbit down and 14mbit up (internet); internal is ofcourse much faster
                • OTG port works fine
                • Can't give AnTuTu benchmark results; when opening the app it crashes/reboots
                • ALL online streaming apps show video's without stuttering
                • 720p and 1080p movies play fine, without any stuttering or hickups, from internal network (over wifi)
                • Skype recognizes my webcam, but webcam doesn't show any video (Logitech USB webcam)

I'm happy with it. Only thing I don't understand: why does AnTuTu crash

The antutu crashes I have noticed are usually from too much heat or else not enough cpu voltage. Later this afternoon I will throw up my new kernels - one geared for speed and one geared for low heat. They should work well with this rom. I did some voltage tweaking and seemed to gain a ton of stability. I wasn't having the reboots with that kernel on my stick but I don't think these are all made the same.

                    Must be voltage.....

Must be voltage then; after just cold booting the stick and executing AnTuTu it cannot rise it's temperature till skyhigh values so that there will be spontaneous reboots.

My thoughts too in this case.

version 3.3 breaks my HDMI sync. It comes and goes every few seconds and artifacts when it is in. This is the first custom rom/kernel to do this. the stock rom mine shipped with suffered from this as well.

Not to my knowledge. Every other kernels prior to this have worked (except for the one from the factory). Not sure what is different.
