I figured out why the screen is being reported as 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080. They added space over the kernel resolution to allow for the status bar! If they did not do this then the pixel ratio for the "display area" would not be right and videos would look squished!

A prime example of this is Strauzo's nexus ROM. It is a tablet ROM and does not add screen area for the status bars over the kernel resolution. Thus the video looks squished in the "draw-able area" unless you remove the bars. Seems TV sticks add this "overscan" (if you call it that) to the kernels resolution. This is to keep proper video aspect ratio in the draw-able area.

Lewy, watch out with your am command. It does not work on all frameworks as I have tried that before. Depends how they hacked the framework for resolution.

I think this is true before sending the image to the HDMI , meaning that internally it will be
Consisting of 1080p video+120p status bar and the video has a 1:1 pixel mapping.
But when it is sent to HDMI the whole 1200p picture will be squeezed again to fit the TV 1080p
As a result the video image will be squished when displayed on the TV.

But this will not happen when only displaying on a tablet that has a true 1920x1200 resolution
As the image will not have to rescaled by HDMI to fit 1080p. which maintains the 1:1 pixel mapping.

In other words their solution is suitable only for tablets but not for our tv sticks
Which have to send the image to HDMI connection.

only bad info is that lcd density wont change but i will figure it out;p
I can consider that the lcd density doesn't change as the best news.
because if the display area is 1920x1080 and the density didn't change
It means that the true resolution is changed , because this is the only
Way to change the display area if the density doesn't change.

So the resolution switching is true.

So , if we are on windows we would put this in a .bat file to automate the process
With a single click on the bat file , is there something similar on android or it has
To be a complete app ?

It looks like i was mistaken , this is clearly a scaled resolution , the texts and icons are all pixilated
Much more than the normal 720p to 1080p up scaling , it is very badly scaled , no comparison with
The true 1080p kernel or even the upscaled 720p kernel.
but anyway good trial lewy , thanks very much for keep trying.
